The Great Curve - Phish
10.31.96 - The Omni, Atanta GA
Halloween 1996, when Phish covered the Talking Heads’ Remain In Light, was my fourth Phish show. Much like my trip to see the boys in Pittsburgh two weeks earlier, we spent about as much time in the car getting to and from Atlanta as we did in Atlanta itself.

The crew that I went along with to Atlanta, and Pittsburgh two weeks earlier, were for the most part new friends that I had not seen a Phish show with. Like Clifford Ball though, these trips acted as launching pads into great friendships. But enough sappiness. Every Phishhead knows this show inside and out. My favorite track from the whole night is The Great Curve, and while I love how Crosseyed & Painless is still in the set list rotation, I really wish they would re-introduce this Talking Heads’ classic.

Maze - Phish 10.18.96 - Pittsburgh Civic Arena, Pittsburgh PA The first Phish album I owned was Rift, and the first song I was drawn to was Maze. This version is extremely solid. Every note hit and the peaks that Trey reaches bring a smile to your face. - http://blanksandpostage.com/post...

I was only there for about 16 hours, enough time to see Phish, have a few beers after the show, enjoy late night breakfast at the Eat’n Park, and sleep. Well worth the 6 hour drive from Blacksburg.

There are moments at concerts when you feel like you are one with the music. At least that’s the case if you see Phish live. At the end of the second set of my second show, I was overtaken by my first experience of the hose at a Phish show. I’ve had the feeling before at Dead and Panic shows, but nothing like the last few minutes of Slave to the Traffic Light at The Clifford Ball. It was the strongest musical moment of a once in a lifetime weekend that is probably one of the biggest reasons why I continue to see Phish today.

In thirty days I will be at my 30th Phish show. That’s really not that many shows for your average Phish phan. However, it seems like a lot to me considering it will take me over 13 years to hit that mark.

In celebration of the big 3-0, I am going to post a favorite performance each day from each of the 29 shows that I’ve attended. So if you are not a Phish fan, you might want to unfollow me for a month.

First up is my favorite Phish tune, Mike’s Song. Nothing gets me going more than a thick nasty Mike’s and this version is up there (for me) as one of the best ever with the killer segue into Simple.

One of the coolest parts of the Ocho was the cover set of The Rolling Stones’ Exile on Main Street.  However, this intro video that came on 4:20 before the set started got everyone dancing and going nuts as Phish took the stage, putting an end to the game that so many of us have enjoyed the past month!  Give it a watch, it sums up some of the best artists and albums in rock and roll history!
