"I've been obsessed with bubble tea for years, and was concerned when I moved to Portland that I wouldn't be able to get my fix. We found Fat Straw on Hawthorne, but we live in Northeast, so don't…" - Andy Baio
Just unbelievable. I don't know what's crazier... such high prices, or the reality that most users are lazy / ignorant and will simply type in [x].com when [x] is the subject or brand they want to explore. Such behavior painfully leads to the viability of squatters and domain parkers... blech! :-( - Adam Lasnik
For what it's worth, I was kidding around. CBS must have bigger plans for CNET than just the domains, right? (Right?) - Andy Baio
@ Adam - i don't think using generic domains for ads-only is necessarily Internet Badness. It's the reality of the market - navigation traffic - it's the understanding and selling of commercial intent, no different than what search engines do. - hunter walk
I recognize and respect that viewpoint. However, I've seen domain squatters grab domains and throw ads on them when people who are sincerely passionate about a particular topic or hobby could do very much more with the site. Then again, one could reasonably argue that the same thing is true with sites in general, and not a specific fault of domain parkers. - Adam Lasnik
@ Adam - yeah, i kinda think it's like how beautiful art sometimes ends up in private hands, never to be seen again. It's unfortunate but I rather have free markets on this stuff. And i like to believe that at some point, traffic will flow to what is actually deemed most helpful - regardless of whether it's a parked page or developed site. - hunter walk
I'm enjoying an older model, but never had luck with the software it came with, nor can I delete videos while it's connected. Have they fixed all that? - Karl
I've had zero problems using the mac software to edit and upload to flickr - Ben Clemens
I just drag the AVI files off the Flip drive to my Mac. You could even upload them directly to Flickr from the Flip. - Andy Baio
Interesting; never heard of the Flip. How's the quality look? - Benjamin Golub
I also could never get my Mac to read my Flip. I have an older version. Even Parallels couldn't see it. A PC could. - Jeff Bonforte
Strange, worked perfectly for me. Plugged it in, USB drive appeared, copied files over. Video quality is excellent for the price, 640x480 resolution. - Andy Baio
"I simply don't understand why this place is completely dead every time we go there. Last weekend, we gave up on Jam (30-40 minute wait) and headed over to Jace Gace. A few blocks away, and only two…" - Andy Baio
Twitter is only as boring as your friends are. - Mike Reynolds
Situations like that need a twitter-flash-crowd. Give us the address and we'll have a dozen people walk by innocuously talking about how Twitter changed their lives. - Kevin Fox
This would've been a perfect Annie Hall moment. "Excuse me, you know nothing of my work." - Andy Baio
Trying to remember if we were at whole foods that day talking about twitter. :) - Chris White
This is awesome. I worked a bunch with Cliff during our mutual time at BMUG and he was quite a character. Brilliant, but a young curmudgeon. I'm tempted to ask him to document his views now, 13 years later. I think I just might. - Kevin Fox
I love old news. "Then there's cyberbusiness. We're promised instant catalog shopping--just point and click for great deals. We'll order airline tickets over the network, make restaurant reservations and negotiate sales contracts. Stores will become obselete. So how come my local mall does more business in an afternoon than the entire Internet handles in a month? Even if there were a trustworthy way to send money over the Internet--which there isn't--the network is missing a most essential ingredient of capitalism: salespeople. - Paul Buchheit
No salespeople? Isn't that what spam is for? - Devin Anderson
That's a funny quote. Seldom has anyone been more wrong. And iirc it was obvious in 1995 that this was wrong. - j1m
As far as I can tell, he fell off the Internet entirely. His Klein Bottles site hasn't been touched since I met him in Berkeley in 1997. - Andy Baio
"What the Internet hucksters won't tell you is tht the Internet is one big ocean of unedited data, without any pretense of completeness. Lacking editors, reviewers or critics, the Internet has become a wasteland of unfiltered data." He obviously never tried typing "THEGOOGLE" into a Word document... - Numair Faraz
Leonard has strong opinions about this. I always found Trac more usable, but Leonard strongly preferred Jira. Not sure what he's using now. - Andy Baio
"The ambience is a little frou-frou, but the eggs benedict and dirty bloody mary hit the spot. And unlike other hip Austin places, it was completely dead on a Sunday at 11am." - Andy Baio
"Unimpressed. The nigiri was too expensive for the quality, which is acceptable, but not great. Service was good and staff friendly, but my wife and I still dropped $60 and left hungry, so we won't…" - Andy Baio
"I'm apparently in the minority here, but I've been to every sushi bar in Mountain View and this is the only one we come back to regularly. When you have a two-year-old, long lines and slow service…" - Andy Baio
"Well, there's no getting around this. I have an unpopular opinion and I'm going to share it... I (gasp!) didn't like Sancho's, and neither did my wife. This is from a lifelong taqueria fan, too.…" - Andy Baio
"Best playground I've ever seen. My two-year-old's jaw dropped when he saw the full-size steam train. Grab some sandwiches and a blanket, and plan to spend a few hours here (or until your kids fall…" - Andy Baio
