If your Company or Business has an all singing and dancing website that’s great news, however that means you have a website that can be accessed by any mobile device with a browser. The chances are that your site will not look as good on a mobile device, have you checked yours out. Why invest an awful lot of time and money on your brand by not offering an experience to your mobile smart phone users as it is the way forward. With more and more people are using mobile smart phones as a business tool while on the move to access information quickly the last thing you need is a slow loading site or a site that can’t be navigated easily. “The Fat Man of Maldon” On a personal note I would like to point out that Wayne Collier of Wayne Collier Company Limited is not fat just a little over weight maybe! and definitely not the Fat Man of Maldon even if I have to say so myself. As I was walking the other day through the Kings Head Centre just off the Maldon High Street, I noticed the bronze of a “Fat Man’s Coat” and thought I would share the local information with you. Born in 1721 Edward Bright was local man and lived in what is now known as Church House, to the east of Thomas Plume’s Library. During his time Edward Bright was known as “The Fat Man of Maldon”, weighing over 42 stone at the time of his death, it is believed he was in fact the fattest man in the country. At just 5’9” in height his stomach alone measured 6’11”. When he died of typhoid on the 10th November 1750 he was only 29 years old and left a wife Mary widowed whilst pregnant with their sixth child. In his short life Edward Bright

Wayne Collier the Socail Media expert asked! have you the time for a great social media campaign is what everyone should be working towards but as I’ve started to find out a highly successful and engaged audience take a larger strain on your time than they first expected. When any marketing campaign first starts out it can take a fair bit of effort to get the project moving but it once it grows legs and starts moving forward it can easily begin to take a toll on productivity and potentially overload their daily tasks. When are you doing enough? One of the problems in social media is when to know are you doing enough to respond to Fans/Followers and engage your audience without them hijacking your social presence and have you scared to take holidays. I have seen that some social channels such as Twitter may work really well for one brand but for another it might be Facebook, so it’s important to test and trial both and move forward and refocuses your resources onto the platform t

Just a business thought from Wayne Collier the Social Media expert based in Maldon Essex on the effectiveness of social media for your business. Social media seems to be used by people everywhere, but not businesses. Businesses seem to be slow to catch on to the power of social media and the benefits they can offer. The most effective use of social media is to get feedback – from customers and other businesses – but a staggering 94% of businesses do not utilise social media in this way. Below is a list of five reasons why businesses should use social media and benefit from the effectiveness it offers: 1.Get feedback: there is specialist software available for this but equally feedback can be gained just by imply listening to what people say on Facebook, Twitter, forums, etc. 2.Answer questions: the internet is all about questions. Until 2010 Yahoo Answers had more traffic than Twitter. Reply to and answer questions. Be helpful. Grow a reputation for being informative and obligi

Five years of tweeting have passed as we celebrate Twitter’s birthday we can see the explosive growth the social media tool has enjoyed over the past five years. On its launch day a total of 224 tweets were sent. Today the same number of messages is communicated in less than one tenth of a second. The simple concept of sending 140 character messages (the same length as SMS texts) to communicate with a small group has gained global popularity with more than 200 million registered accounts worldwide. On March 21st 2006 Jack Dorsey published the first twitter message “just setting up my twittr” (the name was changed to Twitter several months later after the domain was purchased from a birding enthusiast). Within a year 20,000 tweets were sent daily. Its promotion via flat panel screens in the hallways of the South by Southwest Festival (SXSW) in March 2007 resulted in a surge of users, increasing daily tweets to 60,000 in just one week. By July 2007 the social media tool had been av

Facebook v Google+ Round 1...Since its launch in 2004 Facebook has enjoyed unrivalled success as the number one social networking site but the launch of Google+ looks set to challenge its position. We decided to take a closer look at these two sites and analyse the advantages and disadvantages of each. Friends Facebook allows you to build your network by adding friends (who must accept your request) who can then be added to lists. Google+ uses circles to group your friends. By employing ‘drag and drop’ this is more intuitive and easier to use than Facebook’s lists. However Facebook allows you to exclude specific groups from receiving your updates which is seen by many as a distinct advantage. Similarly, through these lists you can appear online to one group and offline to another. Google+ does offer a similar feature but in a more complicated form. Private messaging Facebook has excellent features to share private content with selected people; Google+ does not yet support this th

We at Wayne Collier Company Limited just love Social Media. As businesses continue to integrate social media and become more confident and comfortable with social media tools and platforms, we’re starting to see a change in social media usage. A new study reveals what’s changing with social media. Most companies (66.5%) have adopted social media in the past 18 months. About half of the companies reported they’ve only been using social media for about a year and about 20% reported they’ve adopted social media practices in the past 13 to 18 months. Companies are focusing their energies on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube and blogs. Data suggests that companies focus their time and efforts on the “big 5″because they’re able to find their customers .Unfortunately companies may be missing out on valuable niche groups by not extending their reach to the less-popular social sites. flickr, for example, has a large audience even though it’s not as popular as Facebook or YouT

If you are struggling to grow your audience via Facebook perhaps you might like to take a look at a FACEBOOK Advert Campaign? Facebook ads are the little images displayed on the side of the website; they are usually informing you of a product or service while browsing your friend’s profiles. Many people think of them as online versions of billboards with the added business benefit of a website link. They allow a business to inform and persuade their potential customers and then allow them to simply click on the ad to visit the company’s website. Why use ads on Facebook instead of other sites? Facebook has already become the largest social network and is likely to soon become the most visited website on the planet, surpassing even Google. Despite so many different types of people visiting the website, its creators have created an easy to use system. A person with a wealth of online advert knowledge will be able to utilise the platform and drive considerable amounts of traffic. Once

Social Media a few basic rules for Business Firstly I don’t apologise for writing about “Social Media” and the importance of it to all of us in business. For business along with our private lives things are changing across the world, already in our lives a few new words have entered into our everyday vocabularies: Social Media, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, 4square, LinkedIn to name but a few. Social Media has really taken off beyond what anyone could have expected just a few years ago. Both individuals using it for fun and businesses looking to connect with customers are finding that it can bring benefits that would be hard to achieve in the offline world. But to benefit from Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Foursquare, make sure you follow a few basic rules to help you really feel the full force of what social media can provide: Be Active: There is little point signing up for a social media account if you only use it once a month and never interact with people. Whether you like it or not the Social Media Revolution is here! Everyone & their grandmother is on facebook, youtube, twitter, bebo, myspace, linkedin, Google & the list goes on & on & on……. And businesses are well aware of the fact that if they don’t start using these technologies to communicate with customers & subscribers they are going to fall behind their competition FAST! Social Media has created a new position in many businesses. The duties of a Social Media Manager is to manage all the social media of the business & thus increase the businesses brand recognition, build strong relationships with customers & potential customers & thus increase their sales & get more revenue per customer. Most business owners now know if they don’t start using & embracing social media that they’re going to fall behind their competition. Think about it, of all the local restaurants in your area, if you are friends with one of them on facebook & you’re constantly seeing their brand, thei

Slow takeover or not! Increasingly I have been noticing that in most national media campaigns and on TV adverts things are just saying we can be followed on Twitter or viewed on Face book etc. So is Facebook slowly but surely behind the scenes taking over and replacing company domain names. Advertisers want us to interact with their product or brand and so many corporate websites are boring, people can’t remember web addresses but they can remember a product name or a company name. With half the UK’s population now having a Facebook page, that they can access from computers anywhere or a mobile phone, it’s become a way of life. Quicker than picking up the yellow pages to find a business just type the name or product name in the search bar it’s so easy. Facebook pages are so much more user friendly to use than a directory or a corporate website also you are encouraged to join the community and interact with the brand in a personal way, along with the fact that you will prob

Share and share! I am a seasoned professional, which means I am “OLD” so when I started out in business some 35 years ago the challenge was to get our/your product “Known” within your market place, this was a costly exercise. Advertising and Marketing required very large budgets whoever had the most money would win, with TV at the top of the tree. Now with all the 21st century opportunities and the implementation of Social Media it has revolutionised the work environment and the way we work. A few years ago the concept of walking around and doing business from a laptop or even a mobile phone would have be thought of as science fiction or even from a James Bond film. With all these changes Social Media has become the cornerstone for companies to really interact in a different way with its audience. Your website has become more than just a business card on line it’s your shop window to show what you do. Social Media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn along with o

Networking! What, When, Why and How. Ok up until November 2010 my past experiences of any networking group had been poor, some of that because I personally could not be asked to attend, I was just dragged along as a guest to make the numbers up and see if I was mad enough to join up. The other point was that all anyone wanted to do was to try to sell their business and themselves to you, and then tell you what they had done for other members in the room. Knowing that the service that you were offering did not suit the needs of anyone in the room made it difficult to see the point of attending. My attitude maybe a bit old fashioned but if someone wants to sell something to me, pick the phone up ask the question, am I interested in ( x ) if yes then maybe we could arrange for them to come and see me, job done. In my world people buy from people and it’s not what you know it’s who you know. However I had been told that over the past 5 or 6 years networking meetings had changed but

I found this article in my inbox this week as a coffee drinker I do recommend that you have a good read. However I am not sure if this is bull shit or fact what do you think, but I had to pass this on as words fail me if it’s true. I know some of you enjoy Starbucks, (I for one don't know who owns it), but this is beyond words.................. Recently, British Royal Marines in Iraq wrote to Starbucks because they wanted to let them know how much they liked their coffees, and to request that they send some of it to the troops there. Starbucks replied, telling the Royal Marines thank you for their support of their business, but that Starbucks does not support the war, nor anyone in it, and that they would not send the troops their brand of coffee. So as not to offend Starbucks, maybe we should support them by NOT buying any of their products! I feel we should get this out in the open. I know this war might not be very popular with some folks, but that doesn't mean we don
