I think I need to visit J-Wo just to get him to make me one of these
- Mo Kargas
I don't even eat meat and I want that right now.
- joey
Joey... I have a vegie alternative. You get large flat mushrooms and lie them stem up on a try. Put about 2 tablespoons of butter on each with chopped up chilli and salt. Bake for about 30 minutes in a medium oven. They take on the taste and texture of fresh, tender beef.
- Johnny Worthington
Hahaha...I was just mocking the typo of garlic Mo...I eat garlic bread for breakfast...:) Hence being single still... :)
- Bill Heslin
Johnny I was just going to say....substitute grilled Portabello's for the meat..that sounds yummers too
- Bill Heslin
Epic is the only word to describe this. Truly. Epic. I am impressed.
- Katie B
Yeah. LOL. I just made it official, like in the Thriller video...except that I didn't turn into a werewolf and chase her through the woods....
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Not fair that the lady gets to wear a fancy ring before we even do the church thing. What's the point of being engaged if you can't flaunt it? LOL. Thanks everyone :)
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Congratulations, Rahsheen! I had a similar thought for Harold when he gave me my ring: "Gee, kind of unfair the guy doesn't get to wear something too until the wedding."
- Kamilah Gill
I know a mother who has a whole drawer of old unmatched containers in her kitchen and it's totally permitted for the kids to do the activity in the photo. When they're done, it takes 30 seconds to sweep up the pieces and throw them back in the big drawer.
- Phil Calvin
Josiah is allowed in the plastics cupboard and the utensil drawer, and it comes in handy when I'm cooking and need to keep him occupied.. However, this occasionally backfires when I can't find something. Sucks when you have to flip your pancakes with a knife because your spatula is missing.
- Mellissa
Why not, John? I just sent her a little traffic. :)
- Louis Gray
Wow, also Hotlinking the images, how lame, I say Louis gets some tweaking done so anyone who hotlinks his images gets a message of theivery, (or pr0n)
- Jimminy Fuller
is it a good thing or bad thing she does this Louis what with the extra distribution and all? Isn't it like stealing your music and playing it elsewhere? 95% of music isn't paid for. I pay for all mine and movies on iTunes yet my teenage kids pay for nothing and think I'm mad to pay.
- Thomas Power
I assume it comes with the territory. cash-bandit.com does the same thing. Last month, I believe somebody retweeted a link to them instead of to my blog on accident, as that was the first reference to the story in Google Blog Search
- Louis Gray
What mjc said. And hotlinking is not cool, do what boingboing (was it them?) did to these brazilian bloggers who were doing the same thing
- Itachi
yes but do these rip off merchants matter if they get you more distribution? Isn't it cost of sales?
- Thomas Power
louis gets nothing whatsoever from blatant plagiarism of his work, however I don't agree at all with "hotlink protection" as it breaks google imagesearch most of the time. There are good uses of hotlinking
- mjc
so when a kid rips off a song and plays it in public the artist gets nothing
- Thomas Power
You can't pick up one side of the stick without picking up the other. So long as we demand a free Internet, we can hardly demand ownership rights.
- Dawn
hear hear Dawn. That's why I pay for everything and subscribe to everything (and yes I do mean everything). My 3 teenage kids won't get jobs unless things are paid for somehow. The VCs can't pay for everything for ever.
- Thomas Power
mjc - he could target that domain so only requests from that domain get a "hey you don't steal my image"
- chrisofspades
How irritating. The whois info is not so satisfying:

The back cover lists some excerpts including: "Mistake #59: Asking Permission. Children, not adults, ask for approval. Be direct, be confident." Wow, that is so something that I need to work on, especially when I am the only woman in the room.
- joey
I "read" the audiobook several years ago. I think it has some good advice. At least it makes you take a different perspective on your behavior.
- Carmen - Happy 2010!
Thanks, Carmen. I wish I had a book like this three years ago.
- joey
I'm reading this now and so far, I kind of want to give a copy to every woman I work with.
- joey
re #59, I tell that to friends all the time. I'm more of a "easier to ask for forgiveness than ask permission" type of girl. I assume I was hired because they believe I know how to handle a problem so I do just that. If I'm later told I was wrong then I fix it and move on.
- pea
Def gonna take a look at this the next time I'm in a bookstore.
- pea
For me, #59 is more of an appeasement thing and tied to her other advice, don't automatically poll everyone else for their opinion. It's not so much being afraid of making the wrong decision as being too caught up in trying to be really inclusive.
- joey
I actually have to make an effort to be inclusive because my first instinct is to just do it myself or tell someone how a job/task should be done. So I have to take a breath and ask, "What do you think?" and actually listen. Not for everything, of course, but for group projects especially.
- pea
I'm like that often for my own team, but for cross-company projects or large-scale strategic initiatives, I am realizing that I assume I should defer far more often than I probably should. I'm a strange mix of bossy and demure. And it ends up keeping me anxious.
- joey
I'm just bossy. I tend to only hold back if I really have no clue what's going on. But even then, I ask a lot of questions. One thing I've learned is to not be shy about admitting what I don't know. This usually puts people at ease and even people who aren't very team oriented get into it because that gives them a chance to show off what they know and people like that.
- pea
hmm, this seems worth checking out :)

...this reminds me of the Far Side comic where two polar bears are hovering over igloos, and one says to the other: "I don't know what you call them, but I love eating these things... they're chewy on the insides."

"We analyzed over 500,000 first contacts on our dating site, OkCupid. Our program looked at keywords and phrases, how they affected reply rates, and what trends were statistically significant. The result: a set of rules for what you should and shouldn’t say when introducing yourself online. "Mint.com’s offerings are the best online I’ve found, and Quicken needed to get the product to stay relevant in this space. I hope they maintain the Mint.com brand, but these things rarely work out the way I want them to."
- Louis Gray
I still can not believe people will put financial info out in the cloud and lose control over it. mint.com is a great site. Why don't you put all your personal medical info on Google's medical database?

ugh, I don't like this. I bailed on Intuit's products for mint in part because Intuit's integration with other services sucked. I hope they don't destroy it.
- Bill Kinney
Bill, on TechCrunch they have an update stating that the Mint team is going to be in charge of Mint and Quicken Online. They may even get responsibility for other Quicken personal finance software.

Alex seems to think having people know who you are is a good thing. I guess if your livelihood is based off of web clicks that's true. Personally, I'd rather have a few hundred thousand worth of stock in a pre-IPO startup, and then be quietly unknown on my own island.
