I mentioned this in passing in my piece, earlier this week, with my identi.ca todo list. The biggest thing about FF are the discussions. You could easily integrate disqus with Identi.ca or Twitter for that matter, to give the same effect and connect back to our blogs. This would end the uncomfortable duality, when some discussion is taking place on the blog and some on FF. They really need to be the same thing. I already use Discqus on my site and I don't want to change.

I discovered disqus through scripting.com the other day, and tried it out myself on my own site. I'm seriously impressed, but I'm holding back from a full implementation as it uses JavaScript. A system like disqus that uses PHP (thereby removing browser dependencies) would be a killer ... I wonder if it's possible?

Just as facebook copied FriendFeed (and in a good way). Disqus would be great for twitter (and vice versa), i dont really use any of the other microblogs, the community is on twitter and until it shuts down, i'm on twitter.

Really -- what if identi.ca does a plug-in API, how would they stop it from happening? They already support the Twitter API, so I'm afraid you've already lost the battle of it's "not going to happen" -- sorry to be the one to deliver the bad news! :-)

You said "should do a deal with identi.ca". I'm sorry to be the one (that is, identi.ca employee) that points out that we don't do "deals" with unfree services. What other people do with our API is up to them, but you certainly won't see any integration at this end.

@Peter, it is his pvt. life. We cannot snoop into the bedrooms of people and worry about it. What enraged most people in this case is his use of his wife in the campaign even after his "affair". In fact, if not for Elizabeth, Edwards wouldn't have enjoyed the support he had. In fact, I don't care if he had sex with another woman or not. It is between him and his wife and NO ONE else has any right to poke their nose into it. (contd)

What is wrong and what enraged me was his use of Elizabeth in the campaign while he was screwing another woman. If he had used her in the campaign, I wouldn't have bothered about his sex life at all. He had misused/abused the trust we kept on him due to Elizabeth.

TV is dead. Time delays are dead. In Canada, they don't allow local broadcasting of election results until your region's polls have closed. The Internet has killed that old-fashioned idea. Time delay TV is so 1988.

We hear this every four years, but if you truly want the Olympcs to be live with the 12-hourdifference, be waring to go at 3 a.m. That said, I notice that at least for the East Coasters are getting some of the big events live while us West Coasters have to wait three hours... But we're used to that...

Comcast added two special Olympic channels in the HD section--one for basketball and one for soccer. There is also Universal HD which has some coverage, USA Network, Oxygen, CNBC and MSNBC, and Telemundo. I'd spin around to see if you can find anything live at the moment (I think there is a basketball game on now).

Have you tried nbcolympics.com? I know they are having some events live. Personally I don't have a problem with the delay. With a choice of the races being broadcast live but not seeing them and being able to see the delay I'll take the delay.

If you want live, unfortunetly the only way is through the web. And they are raw feeds using MS Silverlight. So if your willing to deal with that you can get all of the events in a pop-up window on your computer. : |

On the West coast in .au we are use to 2hr delay for most sporting events, but not the Olympics. Appears to be live at, least on SBS the "complementary" broadcaster, time to settle down for 3 hours of the womens cycling road race.

whenever the olympics take place on the other side of the world most events aren't shown live. This is not about broadcasting the olympics as a public service. It's about NBC making their money back. You do understand the relationship between ad rates and prime-time, right? The Internet takes away any suspense about the olympics when they are held on the other side of the world. You ain't gonna get live from NBC. Too much money at risk.

Adding insult to injury, my rather capable PowerPC Mac can't even access the Olympics on nbcolympics.com. It's using an Intel-only version of Silverlight. Trying CBC and other foreign networks online all reject me because of my American IP, and I haven't found a successful proxy server that'll let me stream.

I like the new layout. It's got me using it again (for now, at least). Re: what Roberto said about pronouncing brand names - I get this fairly often amongst the on-hold audio messages I produce, where the voice artist has to waste time spelling out the web address, having already spoken the name as it sounds. Not good on the ear.
