I can't believe this made it to Turkey. It is important to realise that this is a team comprised of cretins, hence their behaviour. Not all Australians are this silly just NSW origin players and coaches.

Welcome Baby Ryan!!! My baby Ryan (17 years!) and I are honored to welcome another superstar to our planet! Love, hugs, and lots of kisses to Baby Ryan, Mommy Maryam, Dad Robert and big brothers Milan & Patrick and of course Grandma!!! My guess on Ryan's arrival (predication) was only 23 hours off. I thought he would arrive on Friday, Sept. 18th at 11:45 pm. Love to all, Kelly & Ryan Kim
- Kelly S. Kim
What a moment, eh? I remember when my daughter came into this world, it was so exciting there were no words for it. Congrats on your wonderful baby boy!
- Michael J. Carrasquillo
Congratulations! Welcome to the world, Ryan. :-)

Congratulations Robert and Maryam! And welcome Ryan. If I was having a baby today, I'd begin a blog for him/her straight away as an online diary they could look back on when grown up.

Would have been one heckva night launch tho.
- Roberto Bonini
I agree, but any night launch is exciting. Hopefully they will make it tonight!
- Michael Fidler
what a stunning picture. i am pretty sure that this (specifically) is NOT why the launch was scrubbed, though. I was set up to shoot the launch and also listening to the live communications between Cape Canaveral and Mission Control. Lightning was never mentioned (after the T-9 hold). Furthermore, I am willing to bet that the photographer that took this picture never saw the lightning...

Carlos, I think this might be a NASA shot. If you click through the second photo, you’ll find a 3000x2000 image of the shot with a description of what happened. Here’s what it says, “Xenon lights over Launch Pad 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida compete with the lightning strike seen to the left. Space shuttle Discovery is on the pad waiting for a scheduled liftoff on the...

Ben Cooper shot this, I know his work and yes he works for NASA. I am not sure what you mean by your post. What I was getting at is the information in the article is incorrect. The article was not posted by NASA. Furthermore, nothing in the entry, by NASA, states that the launch was scrubbed because of this lightning strike. Again, I was listening in to the live broadcast and it was...

- Matt Hilton
Carlos, I'll take your word for it. I was just reading what was on NASA's website. I've never seen a launch before. I would love to go see one before the program ends. How close do you think you'll be?
- Michael Fidler
Not sure yet. I may just end up in my cul-de-sac. it all depends on the weather at this point. i do know that i wont be at the two nearest locations: the NASA causeway and the Banana Lagoon. I am trying for the next best locations which are all in Titusville. If you are interested I can post of unreleased shots that i took of STS122 from the causeway.
- Carlos Ayala
Absolutely interested! I would love to see them. Are you planning anything special in terms of shots for the night launch?
- Michael Fidler
Uploading now. Night launches, unless you are near the shuttle are usually long exposures that track the trajectory/flight path. Its really difficult to get a really clear shot of the shuttle itself at night, from a distance -- while in flight. But there are quite a few shots that i'd love to mimic if there are clouds in its path. Not sure yet though.
- Carlos Ayala
It looks like we're going to have to wait another 24 hrs. This is from NASA's web site; "The next launch attempt would be no earlier than 11:59 p.m. EDT on Friday night, August 28".

And similarly there been complete silence from Apple employees on the ZFS mailing list. I think the last post was sometime in March. Back in December last year, they clearly believed that ZFS would be shipping in Snow Leopard. It would have been nice if Apple were to confirm whether it's killing ZFS or just putting it on hold while it ships Snow Leopard.

It looks really cool...it's like friendfeed for your own website. And I like the "queued up" function as opposed to real-time flow (very distracting on popular blogs). Hopefully they'll allow comments to be "paged", so not all 100+ comments appear at once. I hope Friendfeed can implement comment paging too...
- brainno722 (Peter)
Hmm...another thought but I didn't hear in the video...is there a "search" capability for commenters? kind of like...read before you post in forum rules...
- brainno722 (Peter)
Oh wow...commenters can edit their own thread on someone else' site...lol great for regret posts (not that I'd use it in inappropriate ways, but there are always better word choices...)...but does that cause the debate of who owns the content, the commenter or the author?
- brainno722 (Peter)
iWorks Web version? They'll likely try to compete somehow for the new online MS Office. Also, they may later attempt to provide servers for APNS? Highly doubt that part though.
- John Wang
I think a lot of companies want to rebuild datacenters not just to embrace cloud computing, but to tackle the incredible densities that are now possible due to virtualization. Power and cooling need to be revamped to handle the 200+ watt/sq. foot spaces we are now seeing (compared to ~100-125 watts/sq. foot just a few years ago). At the same time, they want to consolidate as much as possible (large corps only want 3-4 datacenters instead of 10-15).
- Peter Ghosh
Because they have a huge amount of cash to burn ? And know cloud computing will grow and that datacenters will be in demand ? :)
- ɯɥøq sɐɯoɥʇ

I wonder if they want to go into the Social Networking arena with iTunes.

They've already said they're doing that, but via building Last.fm and FB connections into iTunes itself. I'm really not sure what the former would accomplish since Last.fm's client already provides all the necessary functionality but *shrugs*

I like the idea, but not the name. Seems kind of bias right off the bat. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the innovation that Google brings to the table, but to name the freakin' show after Google?? Can you tell that I am a big fan of Dvorak :)
- rodney.franklin
Think it was a big mistake to put the name "google" in the title, but will probably be a great show anyways.
- Steven Legault
this is great, so much to talk about, and so much to learn. I think most people have no idea the range of services that are emerging from both Google and Amazon related to cloud services that will be invaluable for the small or start-up business as well as consumers....

Interesting how Apple has always worked so hard going after the college/university student market, especially in the context of the way they dominate sales of computers over the $1000 mark now. It's not only targeting young minds, it's also targeting young minds that are disproportionately likely to be wealthier than average in their careers and invest in themselves.

Palm announced Wednesday afternoon that Jon Rubinstein will become the new chairman and CEO of the smartphone maker. Ed Colligan will step down as Palm's chief after 16 years with the company. Rubinstein joined Palm as executive chairman in October 2007 and will take over as CEO on June 12. Colligan will take some time off, then join Elevation Partners, the private equity firm that has a 25 percent stake in Palm. Rubinstein's appointment now appears to explain why it was him and venture capitalist and Palm backer Roger McNamee who showed off the Pre at last month's D: All Things Digital event.

Wow isn't even close to describing how cool this is. Plus, over video you can't experience the noise, the wind, the jet fuel smell, and the full HD experience (behind us planes are launching too, and there's just stuff happening all over when you're on the flight deck).
- Robert Scoble
I am surprised they let you get that close! Especially that second vid with the arresting wires just in front of your feet!
- Robert
Robert: I was surprised too. Eddie, no, the pilots are the coolest. The skill (and confidence) it takes to land one of these at night is just freaking amazing. We got to hang out with the Pilots at night and they are really cool people. I gave each one a Poken and we had a lot of fun with that.
- Robert Scoble
Clearly they're not running background checks like they used to. ;)
- Brett Schulte
"...and the full HD experience..." That's real life high def right there.
- Dave "Freedom 35"
What did you use for video, Robert? Did the mic survive? :-O
- Ken Sheppardson
Incredible video. Now I have Danger Zone playing in my head. What an awesome experience you all had. Mahalo for sharing!
- Nathan Kam
Ken: I was using a Canon 5D MKII with a 70-200 F2.8 lens for these with a R0DE microphone. The mic survived just fine. Colin: it was a total blast, but the highlight of the trip was taking off from the ship. What a rush and one that I'll never be able to totally explain. One of the guys just called it "dynamic." That about nails it. ;-)
- Robert Scoble
Incredible Robert but what was the occasion? Not just anybody can have this experience.
- Colin Clarke
Ken: actually I was using a 16-35 F2.8 L series lens for most of the videos. Colin: the Navy brings many press and VIPs on board for this kind of "embark." The Navy is getting into Twitter and friendfeed and other social media and wanted us to get an upclose look at the ship and what 5,000 Navy sailors do while at sea. They know they can't do public tours so they bring people on board who can show off what they do to other people. Hope I did OK as your proxy.
- Robert Scoble
Robert, in this case I wish I didn't have a proxy :) Hopefully that day will come some day.

- Andrew Clinick
Makes me jealous, I've always wanted to be on a flightdeck of a carrier during operations.
- Jim Lavin
Jim: it's always been a dream of mine too. I've gone to many an airshow and always wanted to get on deck to see them shoot off a plane. The fact that I got to witness about 40 launches, a good many of them at night (those pictures didn't come out so well) was just a great thrill. Keep dreaming, sometimes dreams come true!

I spent 10 years in the Air Force as a weather forecaster and I always loved to set out on the flight line and watch the jets take off. This is really a must-have for the connected home, it would seem. Yet quite US-only for the moment. Would be really nice to know which supported services are currently available outside the US and will continue to be. Recently Netflix started filtering by IP address :-(
- Ignace Rodriguez de R,
I work for Netflix, so I'm really getting a kick out of these replies.
- Matthew Perreault
If you have Tivo u can get Netflix, don't need Roku. I own Apple TV, Roku,Tivo and Vudu. ATV gets the most use. All are in a race for the same content, differentiation is on ease of use, resolution, Apple always wins former, Vudu is best at hi res rt now.
- Michael Metz
Leo, didn't you get a mac mini to use as a HTPC? Seems to me like the mini is a much more capable device.
- Joseph Akbrud
Ha! You're a poet and you probably didn't even know it.

Thought you had an Xbox 360--works for Netflix as well. Roku website is confusing--which product are you actually using?? I use a Squeezebox for music and the Xbox 360 for most video, original hacked XBMC Xbox doesn't get much use anymore. Cheers.

windows media server (WMP11) works great with the PS3 i find... online content... well it looks GREAT, but for the average user, and sometimes me, its too time comsuming to use just the remote, sure i guess i could use a keyboard, but whats the point -- but for me at this time, the PS3 is by far the best "media centre" I have used -- appletv to me isnt worth it, and well here in canada we dont get hulu and that "natively", we have to use a proxy.
- Bryce Campbell
Can you explain how it is really so much better than running a mac mini or apple tv? I get Netflix on my Xbox, but as far as other features I'm curious....
- Debo
@Josh Yes Roku has been doing HD for some time now. Both Netflix and Amazon offer HD content for the Roku. Looks outstanding too.
- Sloan Bowman
Is this the only way to stream netflix HD? Can a media center PC do it, for instance?
- Josh Haley
I wish some tech journalists would talk about the lack of consistent subtitling/captioning for the hearing impaired in the digital distribution space. Apple offers only a smattering of content with subtitles, Xbox Live: none, Amazon On Demand: none, Netflix: none. Hulu offers some but none of the set-top clients support it. This is a big deal for people that are tech savvy but hearing impaired.
- Martin Johnson
@Josh I'm not sure about Media center but I know Xbox can stream HD as well. You can of course use your PC/Mac to view HD as well.
- Sloan Bowman
Sloan, that's sort of what I mean, maybe I used the wrong term. I am using xbmc on a PC running windows. If I could get HD streaming from netflix on it rather than having to get another box, that would be worth a subscription.
- Josh Haley
I see, at the moment Netflix isn't supported on XBMC and not sure if it has plans to. But for $99 you can't go wrong with the Roku. I stand by mind 100% an almost perfect device.
- Sloan Bowman
Thanks, Sloan. Martin, oh wow, no subtitles/CC? That's not good. At least with xbmc I can download the srt and display it as needed.
- Josh Haley
I've got three of them in my house. Much Roku goodness!!
- Brian W
3 Rokus in one house, I guess you have to have 3 subscriptions (1 each) yes?
- Josh Haley
Josh you can actually have 6 devices per subscription. I have a Roku and a Bluray player that both stream from Netflix. Unlimited goodness.
- Sloan Bowman
I have a Mac Mini already hooked to my HDTV and I'm using Boxee or Plex (trying to decide which I like best), is there any advantage to me getting Roku?
- Robert Hafer
I'm happy with the Samsung BluRay that streams Netflix. But Bluray DVD's are too limiting for my travel.

I visited Kevin Marks at Google today. Here's the video of what he showed me: http://www.blip.tv/file... -- how to make your blog more social by adding FriendConnect to it. More details shortly here:
I shot this with my Canon 5D MKII. Unfortunately I have to manually focus and everytime I do that the noise from me manipulating the camera gets transfered to the video. Sorry about that. Still learning how to use this new equipment. This is the kind of video we'll be doing more of for Building43.com.
- Robert Scoble
I shot this in 1080p on my Canon, brought the file into iMovie, saved it out at a lower bit rate, uploaded it via TubeMogul.com which pushed it over to Blip.tv. Pretty good quality for on camera microphone. I was using a fixed 24mm F2.8 lens.
- Robert Scoble
I look forward to this integration as well.. maybe over the weekend
- Sardar Mohkim Khan
I hope to make a lot more "how to" videos for http://www.building43.com -- what do you think? Do you like these? If so, we'll do more from other companies too.
- Robert Scoble
Considering the room we were in was just fluorescent lights, the colour came out pretty well. Nice camerawork.
- Kevin Marks
really cool video. I tried friendconnect on my blog, but because of my small blog community, it didn't show much friends, so I uninstalled it. But watching this video makes me want to install it again :)
- Xavier Vespa
Kevin: this camera (the Canon 5D Mark II) rocks. The more I use it the more I fall in love with it. Only problem is it's a bit tough to manually focus and that also causes audio "clicks" to be generated. I'll work on that, we're getting external microphones for these. Both Rocky and I have a 5D MKII now.
- Robert Scoble
interesting, Blip was displaying the MP4 file up to now. In the background it was transcoding to Flash. Now it's playing the Flash and the quality isn't nearly as nice. The full MP4 is here: http://blip.tv/file... -- much better quality, if your computer can display it.
- Robert Scoble
I've had friendconnect on my blog for a while, it's been great. Google chatback is great for interacting with visitors to the blog, too.
- Iain Baker
It's nice to watch an interview where the image is so sharp.
- Richard A.
Can everyone play the MP4? If so, this quality freaking rocks!!!! Check this out if you can play it: http://a1.video3.blip.tv/0020000... Richard, you ain't kidding! It's amazing that I can shoot and deliver this quality now from an SLR that isn't even optimized for video!
- Robert Scoble
The quality is really good but the shallow DOF is a bit of a problem when viewing Kevin's laptop screen.
- Yuval Atzmon
Yuval: yup, and that's with a 24mm F2.8 lens. Makes it hard to focus, too, because the screen is too small to see properly (you can't focus through the lens, because the mirror is up to allow light to go to the sensor). I'll get the hang of it, though, and I'll also play around with fstops to get more depth of field.
- Robert Scoble
In the flash video version I can see jumps when the camera is moved fast. Will try mp4 version. Edit: The download took serious time, server had a low bandwidth... quality of the video is great, but I still have horizontal and angular cuts when camera moves back and forth between his face and the laptop screen. Might be because of my refresh rate and/or DirectX-graphic card version though.
- ilterocktive
Watching the mp4 feed via Silverlight 3 beta 1 which now supports mp4 video, playback, quality very good, but agree about shallow DOF issue.
- Martin Duffy
Kevin: we will try to do more, especially as we construct building43.com since we have two camera and Rocky does editing but I have tried to do this several times and it is pretty tough to justify/do. Why? One reason I get the access I do is because I don't take much time. Doing this would require a lot more time and access to the interviewee's computer. Not to mention editing time, which costs money. Keep in mind I am mostly playing around right now until we get building43 up and running in May.
- Robert Scoble
I'm still wondering, what can FriendConnect do for new blogs, not the static ones?
- Toni @ NavinoT
Robert & everyone, I'm trying to listen in on these conversations for Building43. Regarding the comment about doing screencasts (time and cost), what if you could do both simultaneously? Robert, you could do your video for the live interaction effect while the demo/interviewee is processing the screencast and edited/voiced over later. Using something like Jing could achieve this but its just a thought.
- Jason Cronkhite
Just enabled this on my site interested to see if it draws people into the conversation. Feel free to stop by KnowtheNetwork.com

Pardon the hijack, but I'd love to get people's recommendations for screenscasting software ... looking at SlideShare and Evernote....

"Introducing fit-PC2 CompuLab introduces fit-PC2 – the smallest, most power-efficient Intel Atom PC to date. fit-PC2 architecture is what sets it apart from other nettop PCs - fit-PC2 is designed around the Intel Atom Z530 1.6GHz and the ultra low power Intel US15W system controller hub, rather than the Atom N270 and 945G used in other nettop-PCs, thereby reducing power consumption by more than two thirds. US15W incorporates hardware video acceleration. This allows fit-PC2 to run Windows XP or Ubuntu Linux at just 6W and to play full HD 1080p H.264 video using less than 7W."

some limitations of the fit2pc: no n wifi, only 1gb ram & is soldered, reader is not sdhc, no wol, hdmi still needs sep audio line. if it could remedy those, then it would be more awesome than i originally thought it was. still cool idea. (edited to add: forums say hdmi does not support hdcp. boy, lots of surprises in what it *can't* do. almost a parody of an 'efficient' device.)

And here I was waiting for netbooks to get better performance and instead we see the same low performance spreading from the mobile world, where it made sense, to our desks. Crud. It's nice that it's got low power requirements, but that seems to be it.

When do they start building the computer into the keyboard?

I need a small, very low power consumption system with two ethernet ports to replace a home server. The fit-PC2 is so tantalizingly close; I'd have to add a USB ethernet dongle, and those are teh suck.

"Want" is a serious understatement. I could do some evil, evil things with that!

Very sexy! I can imagine having three or four of these with SSDs around my house.

For the right (low) price, even with it's flaws it could be a great little media server. And here I was wishing upon an eee-box-star.

sɹǝɥʇɐǝɟʞɔɐןq: Thanks for those helpful pieces of info. Please consider using punctuation and capitalization in the future. I know it's not cool, but it serves a purpose (e.g. it helps knowledge transfer, the supposed reason for commenting in the first place) :P.

The newer boards use a dual-core Atom and NVidia 9400M chipset. Even has CUDA support. I believe it could decode 1080p. http://mini-itx.com/2009...

Looks great. I want also. I'll wait for Windows 7.

Smaller than a MacMini. I'll wait for Windows 7 too.

I'd love to attach this to the back of a monitor and hang it on a wall

Brian Sieker: Asus already started stuffing the whole pc inside a (nice looking) keyboard, take a look at the Eee Keyboard http://gizmodo.com/5124985...

I wonder how well this will run Boxee.. Is it the perfect boxee box?

I'm always skeptical about the 1080P claims for nettops.
