Ludacris "obama rap" is hard core. I love the fact that rappers r finally talking about something important http://mahalo.com/Ludacri...
you're pretty into your hiphop eh Jason? Superb. - Zee.
Jason, that's pretty arrogant of you, hip hop has been a major outlet for important ideas for a long time. Perhaps they're just not important to you? - Jimmy
What the hell? Rap has been about important stuff since Grandmaster Flash at least... - Tad
"Finally talking about something important." Public Enemy, much? Fight the Power? Rappers were the first musicians to actually speak out about the fact that the world is fucked up. - ::Kristen::
"I Like Big Butts" was a breakthrough for women's rights - Steven Cains
Oh, admit it. When a girl walks in wit a itty bitty waist and a round thing in yo face, you get sprung. - ::Kristen::
Logic, people. Just because you can point to negative examples doesn't mean positive examples don't exist. - Michael C. Harris
zee- jason is into whatever will drive traffic to mahal0 :-P - Allen Stern
ha, you're probably right Allen :] I didn't actually see the link funnily enough - Zee.
I found "Parents Just Don't Understand" to be anthemic. Seriously, though "911 is a Joke" had a point to it, did it not? Others: "U.N.I.T.Y.," "Let's Talk about Sex," and many more, I believe. Not being a rap fan, that's all I could recall. Let's not pretend Gangsta Rap is all there is. - MiniMage - HLtW from NoiseRiver
this is just bizarre. - Duncan Riley
this thread is approaching legendary status. - Chris Hollander
The is Ludacrisly amazing! - Sweyn Venderbush from twhirl
The blogosphere's ready for change cos Calacanis is here... - Paul Montgomery
let me try another analogy in the world jason is actually familiar with imagine if, after Google launched its search engine, I said "i love the fact that entrepreneurs r finally building something useful." that would be a really poor statement which revealed my lack of understanding of what really goes on in the world of entrepreneurs. that's all - @baratunde from twhirl
Good grief, now the legions of hiphop analysts arrive. - Eric Rice
Not sure this helps the Obama camp in this case though... - Rahaf Harfoush from feedalizr
I would like to add that (when we are all done denouncing n shit) that the song is kinda so-so. Luda does amazing work when he guest appears on others' tracks, but it's been a long while that he's shined on his own, not like the old days. Okay, you may all now go back to focusing on how rap = bitches and hos. /smirk - Eric Rice
dude I would totally respect you more if you were not dropping the mahalo plug... - Bryan Thatcher from twhirl
finally? omg...tell me i didn't just read this. - Admiral Anika
Don't forget, Jason is from Brooklyn New York that gives him credibility right there. Probably during his teen years (eighties) I don't know he could have escaped the sound of it and hype surrounded by it. Those were the days of P.E, Run DMC, the Fat Boys Grand Master Flash... What a time to be young and witness the birth of a culture now gone global. - Tate DA FF MVP
living in brooklyn doesn't give him any credibility on this issue. the simple fact that he said, 'rappers r finally talking about something important' shows that he more than likely knows next to nothing about hip-hop. and ludacris and 'hard core' don't ever belong in the same sentence. that's just laughable. that being said, i'll give calacanis the benefit of the doubt and pretend the statement was 100% snark. - Admiral Anika
"Rappers were the first musicians to actually speak out about the fact that the world is fucked up." - ::Kristin:: Are you serious? Are you referring to Hip-Hop's roots in the Blues, or Hip-Hop itself which emerged in the 1970's? Hip-hop itself is pretty new in the grand scheme of music and lyrics. - Tom Harrison
You have to remember folks that musically in the 1980s not everything coming from Brooklyn was rap.. For example, Beastie Boys combined rap and other forms of music, not pure rap. - Fred Grott
fred - you wouldn't put beastie boys in the rap category? - Allen Stern
Kinda at a loss on this one Jason...and scratching my head. Anyway...Erika Alexander wrote a piece about it yesterday at BlogHer- http://www.blogher.com/stop-si... - Erin @queenofspain
Luda does a good job with this one, makes some good points and keeps it real. - Nicholas Kreidberg
yo yo yo MC Cain in the house too. - Noah David Simon
no, not pure rap certainly..if you think its pure rap you need your ears cleaned :) - Fred Grott
There's 5 minutes of my life I will never get back. Ridiculous. - jcunwired
you actually consider Ludacris Obama rap "important"? Now there's a stretch. - jcunwired
I wouldn't call it rap or important. It comes off sounding like he just wants Obama as president because he's black. - David Ward
Vincent, I can honestly say I'm not racist at all but some things are just too obvious and it's very frustrating. - David Ward
Agreed @ericrice Luda CD's aren't really that good even though he is a great rapper and one of my modern favorites. His guest spots, however are usually excellent. - Eric_T
