Although their specific recommendations vary, our professionals were unanimous in saying a dry, high-acid wine is needed to refresh the palate after a rich oyster, which should be pristine - correctly shucked and, of course, served icy cold.

What do you think of pairing a Viognier? Having a glass now and wishing I had an oyster to go with. :-)
- Karma Martell
I love French wines from the Rhone Valley but have never tried Viognier. Heard many nice things about it. On my list of ones to try. But IMHO any white is really good with Oysters. Probably because I would eat an Oyster with any type of beverage. I love me oysters anytime, anywhere, with any beverage.

Oh the viogniers are such a joy and they say summer to me.And they really vary- much like a summer's day. I am with you on the oyster-love. Still dreaming of the fresh-harvested oysters brought to a party by a friend of a friend. His beds. Hours from the sea. Absolutely sublime with such a super-clean and subtle taste. But I do torture myself...:-)

I’ve had merlot on the mind recently. Long Island merlot. I’m afraid I’m not ordinarily excited when the topic of merlot comes up. But this is different, because I think Long Island merlot is different from most wines that label themselves as merlot.

the 5 minute episode, seemed like a commercial, especially when gary's appeal is the free flowing long form conversation weaving different topics and thoughts into his review. i vote no on 5 minute version.

There is an article in the new Wired mag that talks about the coming of individual box wine..cheaper containters and ship twice as much. Supposedly It will make a huge push later this year.
