"Paul does a good job explaining some obvious activities that will return higher return vs. others, a blanket response of show me the money or show me the ROI is simply a copout. I bet most organizations couldn't tell us right now the ROI of each of their sales channels, or the ads posted in Wine Spectator or for the 2 cases poured at the latest drunkfest at Fort Mason. In my previous careers working with large global organizations with equally large investments, a thorough ROI analysis was always required. And in that analysis there were always "intangible" benefits as well. A well-informed business decision should never be solely based on a single % or $ figure. It doesn't make business sense. Also, when you are a smaller organization as are most wineries, you can't afford to waste the time for analysis paralysis either. Having said that, while managing social media strategies for over 10 winery brands since 2010, I can sit here and tell you that we have had positive ROI activities..."

"Paul, From a small winery perspective how valuable can a metric of Share of Conversation, Share of Topic really be since the value will be so small? Also, these types of metrics are tough to calculate accurately too.... unless that is you are planning to include these types of measures in the Social Connect dashboards by brand?"

"Right on! Nice work, Joe... you gotta go with your passion, gut, whatever you want to call it as we only live once. Wish you the best of luck and if there is anything I can do to help, just say the word.... word."

"With family in town and the foot just opened up again yesterday afternoon, won't be attending any #ChampagneDay events... however, I do plan to hit the Bottle Barn and grab some Champers on the way to Hog Island this afternoon to pair with oysters - jealous? Nice post as usual and it made WineBusiness.com"

"I agree with Adam, you might be talking venues... however, after I chatted with Foursquare about this issue (back in June), I did notice a couple of alcohol "pages" out there, but they assured me they aren't supposed to be there anymore because of this legal concern"

"Rich, unfortunately, Foursquare will not allow an alcohol business to create a page yet due to the age-gate requirement... This is something they are looking to have available pretty soon"

"Let's not forget #PinotNoir last summer. While not an entire day, it generated over 2000 tweets in a 2 hour period and added an element of competition and passion for your favorite or local Pinot region. The second event is planned for this summer so stay tuned. Thanks Rick for starting this idea. The online wine community is very special."

"Rick, I am going to have to try this recipe too as I have several bottles of Bergstrom in the cellar from our trip to Willamette back in 2008."

"Joe, I can relate on trying to finish these wines over the weekend... I really enjoyed them all. Good news is that they are still holding on nicely. Tonight (night #3) I finished the 08 Ch Lugagnac with a Pork Ragu ... I know, not Italian... but I had wine open! Nice work on the post as always... entertaining."

"I had a boss who created his own version of "apples n oranges" that I think is more in line with this: "it's like comparing dog sh*t and lime juice... the two just don't go together." Pathetic... nice work of analyzing the situation and sharing with us, AWB!"

"Totally humbled. It's been a great journey, but the real journey is only beginning. With friends and family such as you (VinTank) we all can achieve great things. Not only did my wife support the dream, but she is living her dream as well. Make for a happy life."
