I was wondering if there was a plugin that would display all blogs on my blogroll on the front page (by the most recent) and selected blogs relating to the category of each post? My personal blog is too eclectic to have a standard blogroll.

I have a WordPress blog (http://blog.morgaine-lefaye.net/). I'm considering replacing the current WordPress commenting system. What would you recommend? Disqus? Intense Debate? JS-Kit (which seems to have changed its name to Echo)? Or would you feel uncomfortable knowing the comments reside elsewhere?

I've played with all of those systems, and I really don't care for any of them. I always keep coming back to the WordPress commenting system, because I can customize the heck out of it. Those centralized systems offer virtually no configurability, and they look like crap on almost every site I've seen them on.

@Morgaine Wordpress comments plus Backtype Connect is all you need. Keep your comments in house.

"WordPress.com has introduced a new geotagging and goelocation feature for the bloggers. Form now on when bloggers enter their WordPress blog, they will get the option to identify their location. Browsers that support the feature will show up this information automatically. The user has to double-check the location to make sure it is correct. Further, the Firefox users can use add-ons like Operator and Geo to view geo-information on any web page. Apart from geotagging your post, the new feature would also allow you to geotag your profile. This will allow readers to search for blog posts written by writers in their locality or blogs posted from a definite location. This would be an optional feature and bloggers can opt-out from disclosing using the geotagging in their blog."

Agreed. But at least now they've allowed for the 1-click upgrades which only replace the needed files and not the whole WP install anymore. Hang in there :) Oh, and 2.9 is already on it's way. Looks additive though, i.e. it shouldn't really break anything, thank goodness. That is always the greatest horror...

2.8.5 came out three weeks ago. What took so long? Anyway, 2.8.6 is just a minor security update, there's no fundamental changes to it. Should be no issues between 2.8.5 and 2.8.6. Also, the security issues it addresses only impact you if you allow other people to register to your site. And one of them requires that they be able to upload files *and* that you have a misconfigured Apache installation. So the threat level is pretty low there.

Fantastico still hasn't even gotten to 2.8.5 yet w/ my service provider. The auto-update plugin w/ Wordpress never works for me, so I usually just wait for that.

I use the DB Backup plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend... and then just do the one-click upgrade. Works every time. Of course, on my own sites, I run the nightly betas, so I'm upgrading every few days to play with the new features. :)

Remember if you changed something manually in sidebar.php, single.php etc. using Appearance > Editor tool (such as adding adsense blocks) then DO NOT auto-upgrade! It will overwrite those changes!

In a mutiple moderated blog on wordpress, is there any way to determine which moderator deleted a comment?
No, deleted items are actually deleted, no record remains of them.

→ Correct information, multiple moderated blogs work for many; however there will be no sign after a thread/comment is removed.

You would need to instruct the moderators to enter into a collaborative database like dabbledb, which non-spam comment they deleted and why...

Ugh. Seriously? I'd probably block any site I found using something like this. Disabling the Digg bar was one of the very first things I did when they came out with it.

Because I click a link to go somewhere else and read the content there. Making it redirect through your own site and stick a bar at the top (or bottom) is pushy. You're making the user take extra steps to remove your intrusive spam, and that's not a particularly good way to do things.

CommentLuv never works properly for me anyway. It always shows my comments feed instead of my actual feed.

Whenever I leave a comment on any site with CommentsLuv, the link is displays is wrong. It never, ever works for me.

@dcfemella why would you want to send people away to other people's posts on your BUSINESS blog ;) Seriously though, CommentLuv may be overkill, you're giving them 1 link (DoFollow if you want) already. As for commenting systems, why not use WP's comments plus BacktypeConnect?

Couple days. I like BackType Connect, it's a great way to find and get comments from elsewhere into your blog.

I use the other comments systems for twitter and facebook integration. I want the user to be able to 'login' to post a comment via twitter and/or facebook with the ability for the user to post the comment to their twitter or facebook profiles.
