"You could apply a "selected" class to the ul but you have to do it for each of the top level uls above the li that was selected. Example - if someone clicked on Categories > Art > Portraits > Colorful, the ul class="selected" should apply to it's top level (Portraits - so you can see the other items in that list) and each of the parent levels excluding the top most branch (Art). I hope this is making sense. Then in the function, when it's collapsing all the ul's (in the initial setup) - if this causes an issue with the graphic not being correct (plus vs. minus) at the end of when it finishes collapsing in the init(), just cycle back through them and expand based on the class.
