Unfortunately Sherpa does not currently support iPod Shuffle (the one I own), neither iPod Touch or iPhone. If you have one of these unsupported devices, please do not install or run Sherpa. - Xavier Donat
It makes one feel a bit leery of handing out business cards, if only for a second :-) - Ranjit Mathoda
now i also feel bad about handing out my moo cards! ;) - Dieter Schwarz
Looks like I need new cards. :) Mine have never made anyone sweat. - Harvey Simmons
this has to be one of the greatest scenes ever! - Morgan via twhirl
Loved this scene in the book. But couldn't watch the film actually. Don't know why - I didn't like it after reading the book. But this scene is just great! - Anton Nekipelov
best scene ever. I'm voting for satire here. The fact that all 3 cards pretty much look the same and they are getting worked up about subtle coloring... can't be serious. - Tsega Dinka
yeah easily one of my favorite scenes ever. when i saw american psycho in theaters i was maybe the only person laughing throughout the whole thing. many people walked out. - MG Siegler
I got so worked up about this scene, I went and bought some cards from Smythson. They were beautiful, but the per-card cost was so high, I didn't like to hand them out. Oh - and they look *nothing* alike. Two are in serif, two in sans, for God's sake. Even the corporate marque is different, and each card has a different margin. - Mat Morrison
this movie is so underrated it's an outrage. the fact that I can't tell with certainty if this movie is satire or not gives it loads of respect in my book. christian bale should've got serious award consideration too. - grant
interesting how relevant the idea of fawning over the business card (80's) is still today. - Brad Coy
if moo was smart they would use this in some way to promote their new full-sized cards - MG Siegler
"There's a new craze going in United Kingdom - people take pictures of themselves partially covered with folded banknotes (mostly with queen Elizabeth) in the foreground. The result is merged faces of people and queen Elizabeth on the banknotes. The mix looks surprisingly natural for some." - Vince DeGeorge via Bookmarklet
Obama looks good and Heath Ledger looks like Russell Crowe!!! I am from the UK and haven't seen this doing the rounds yet!! - Joe Dawson
I don't know if this is the same one, but it's close. i was sitting here unable to breathe. then there's another one where there are two...and...omg. - edythe
so did you see the end of this convo the other night: http://friendfeed.com/e/f5fea8... because I thought i was being quite witty there as well! ;-) - Nick
yeah, so what's the deal with that? you just like edythe or is your middle name or what? (if you don't mind me asking) - Nick
well, i like edythe and i had been using it for a couple of other things. i have some reservations sometimes about using my real name constantly for things on the web. it depends. for some reason, i didn't do that with twitter. don't remember why. - edythe
i love modern houses. the box appeals to me. - edythe
No shades? I guess privacy is not an issue for them. Glass Houses. - LiquidLag
After looking at the pictures on seattlemodern, I noticed that the wall in the kitchen looks like a morgue. I wonder if they store bodies in there. LOL. - LiquidLag
"20th Century Fox has released a new Russian movie trailer for The X-Files: I Want to Believe. I don’t understand a word they are saying but this is still the best trailer I’ve seen for this film thus far" - Alejandro S.
They say it is like an old school episode before everything became about the conspiracy. - RAPatton
Just came back from seeing the X-Files movie, and yes, it's like a "monster of the week" episode. But I don't feel like its story had enough magnitude for being released after all this time. I liked seeing Mulder and Scully again, but besides seeing their interaction and what has happened to them after all this time, I didn't feel like the overall story was compelling enough. If you want to see it, I'd suggest waiting until it's out on DVD. - Cheryl Jones
I will say though, if you decide to see it in the theatre, wait through the end of the credits. It's nothing super-huge, just a nice little "tidbit" near the end of the credits. - Cheryl Jones
I'm obsessed with data backup, yet I still need to find a solution that satisfies all my needs. Maybe this will help... - Kevin Fox
Amusing that you posted this. I just ordered one (with the network adapter). Finally someone put redundancy in an appliance without the complexity of RAID. Well, Windows Home Server did it a couple years ago, but it's Windows. I have a bunch of spare SATA disks around, so I can load it up right away. - Cyrus Lendvay
I like the 'simpler than raid, but still fault-tolerant' but part of me still likes the idea of swapping out two drives with fresh ones and putting them in a vault for an instant off-site backup. - Kevin Fox
Kevin: out of curiosity, how much data are you trying to backup? - Brian Johns
My plan is to eventually get two of them and sync between them. - Cyrus Lendvay
Brian: A 2TB photo library, acting as a fault-tolerant primary file server, as well as a periodic image off-site backup. :-) - Kevin Fox
One thing that creeped me out about the Drobo when I was looking into them several months ago was that I was under the impression that you can fill them up to the point where you lose redundancy. For example, suppose you put in a 120GB and a 250GB drive. If the 250GB drive fails you'll be able to recover at most 120GB of your data from the other drive, but I think the Drobo will let you use well over 120GB without warning. Am I wrong? - Laurence Gonsalves
(The other thing that stopped me from going with a Drobo was the USB-only connectivity. I wanted NAS so that I could at least keep my backups in a different room from the hard drives they'd be backing up. DroboShare has at least corrected that problem.) - Laurence Gonsalves
The CEO/Founder of the company is a good friend of mine (was at my wedding and was once my boss). I'll see if I can get you guys a discount, code, etc. - Louis Gray
Hi Louis. A code would be appreciated. Thnx! - Michael Carter
There are already evangelist codes that get you $25 off. I hope the discount that Louis mentions is going to be a little better than that. - Raoul Pop
Hey guys. Just got a note from Geoff (Drobo founder). He says, "Drobo does _not_ allow you to fill the product up to a point where it's no longer redundant. You are always protected." - Louis Gray
mine works well, but little shaky with Time Machine - Drew Lucas
Louis: that's good to know. I stand corrected. I vaguely remember the "drobulator" giving me the wrong impression. I wonder if the labels changed since then, or if I'd just misread it. - Laurence Gonsalves
Just got word that the Drobo has been delivered. I can't wait to try it out. - Cyrus Lendvay
I think the Drobo is a good product but for much the same price I bought the much more powerful HP Media Server ( http://www.hp.com/united-state... ) even in a Mac/Windows household it is universally useful - it has redundant storage plus it can run server applications without anyother machine being on e.g. squeezebox for my music slim devices, remote access to files etc. - Martin Taylor
I want one of those, ANYONE want to give me one let me know!! - Paul
I keep waiting for a v2 of the hardware to come out! And it keeps not coming out! :) - felix
I have one of these and love it. Just bought another 750GB drive and shoved it in. Seamless. This easily takes care of my onsite data safety, but I'm still evaluating something for offsite. Amazon S3? Mozy? - Dylan Parker
I have played on MMORPG games that have been less reliable that Twitter. Second Life was abysmal in its infancy. WoW still goes down even with a weekly maintenance period, and is not designed so that all players can be in the same place at the same time. This is not unusual for start-ups that have explosive growth, loyal people will stay as they see the value in doing so. - Allison
Bwana: if they disable it they're dead! how can apps like twitterrific work? - directeur
That would piss me off. For that sort of in-your-face photography, the least he could do is to offer a thank you afterwards. But he just walks on after capturing someone's photo, after shocking them with his flash and camera, with even an acknowledgment. Then he makes money off those photos. Where's the release? Where's the thanks? Where are the ethics? Nowhere. - Raoul Pop
He says in the video that he has no ethics. He also does say though that he considers these people his friends. Model releases would not be needed for fine art photography. - Thomas Hawk
What is "fine art photograhy" -- sounds made up to me - Brian Sullivan
Brian "fine art photography" is pretty wide. A few years back a NY court ruled that photographer Philip-Lorca diCorcia was within his right to covertly photograph people on the streets of NY without model releases and sell the prints as fine art. Model releases are only needed for commercial stock photography. http://thomashawk.com/2006/02/... - Thomas Hawk
on a public sidewalk, there is no need for a release or permission to take a photograph. - Nathan Eckenrode
Gilden's work would classify as "fine art" and he would not need model releases to make and sell prints of his subjects. - Thomas Hawk
Well my inclination would be if he stuck a camera in my face and flashed it to have him arrested for assault. I am guessing some New Yorkers might clock him on the spot. I am all for photographer's rights to take pictures in public places but I think this is pretty close to crossing the line. - Brian Sullivan
Brian, using a flash on someone in public would not be deemed assault by the NYPD. He would never be arrested. Now, yes, my guess is he's probably had some pretty gnarly personal interactions with New Yorkers on the street. In his case I'm not so sure that there is a line to cross. In the video he states that he has no ethics. - Thomas Hawk
Well the fact that he says he has no ethics is hardly justification. Maybe he has no line -- but I am guessing the subjects have a line. Presumably they have rights as well? - Brian Sullivan
Brian, they have no rights in this case from a technical legal standpoint. Anyone can shoot anything they want in public. There is no right to photographic privacy. I'm not necessarily saying how Gilden acts is correct, but there is in fact no legal recourse for people who do not want to be photographed by him. - Thomas Hawk
I love this. I've not been to NY in about 5 years, yet every single one of those photos makes me remember exactly how it felt to be there. I don't care how he does it, I just like how it makes me feel. - Iain Baker
Well if they have no rights they should have (and I suspect in may other jurisdications do). - Brian Sullivan
Brian, maybe outside of the US, but not here. Anyone can shoot anything or anybody that they want in public in the US. - Thomas Hawk
The flash in the face is what I see as particularly offensive (and potentially dangerous?) -- what would happen if the person temporarily couldn't see and stepped out into traffic or walked into a light standard? - Brian Sullivan
FWIW, he states in a follow-up interview on the WNYC site that the "I have no ethics" line was sarcastic. Sounds like his intention was to have it interpreted as having ethics, just not the same as others'. - Tom Harrison
Brian: I'm no lawyer, but I think a case like that would be a very specific instance which would need to go to court, where the plaintiff would have to argue poor judgement on the part of the photographer -- contending that they would not have sustained injury had the photographer not impaired their vision with his flash. Whether or not that would stand I have no idea, but even if there was a conviction it would still not set a precedent that prohibits photographers from using flash on people in public. - Tom Harrison
It might set a pseudo-precedent that photographers using flash in public should use better judgment, however. - Tom Harrison
My concern is that the flash could be seizure-inducing. I know that strobe lights induce seizures in some epileptics, but I don't know if a single flash in the face would. - David Thomas
While it's not exactly the most civil behavior, seeing as he's been doing it since the 80's and I'm assuming hasn't caused anyone any actual harm, what's the point in getting so riled up about it? The photos are pretty awesome, and it appears that most of his subjects aren't even bothered enough to stop walking. - Kevin Reed
if you can smell the street in the photograph then its a street photo. love that quote - Tyler Gillies via twhirl
Very interesting, you have to see it to believe it. Now I would like to see more of his work... would be nice if he had a flickr account. On the video he seems arrogant but I think this is on purpose, he is provocative. - Xavier Donat
Street photography is about the hardest style of photography there is. Miles, alone in the outback; Lay on your belly with the ants and lizards to get a tiny wildflower in the bush; climb huge sand dunes for the harsh grandeur. They're all hard, but street photography: not many people do it because not many can. - Laurie McArthur
If there were an earthquake in SF, Twitter would probably go down then, too. Right now, no eqrthquake here, so what's Twitter's excuse today? ;-) - Cathryn Hrudicka
They should atleast put a note on blog.twitter.com (it seems to be running on blogger.com) to let people know it is down. - Atul Arora
oh sorry Steve, to interrupt your precious feed with our "chatter". thought the comment link was for comments. my bad. - rambn
friendfeed should buy twitter show them uptime :) - Jay Martinez via twhirl
no earthquake, just Belgium that is spliting .... no... just kidding :-) - Damien Van Achter via twhirl
FriendFeed would take over. So would Jaiku and Pownce. - Robert Scoble
It's probably due to the heat. It's so damn hot in the bay area today :( Milk would be a bad choice. - ClunkClunk
I would agree with Scoble. But if Twitter is becoming so critical, why not put servers on the East Coast and In AZ just to cover all bases? - Mike Wills
@scoble Hey what happened to Jaiku? Didnt Google buy them? I never hear anyone mention it. I get adds on other sites but not Jaiku. - Britney Mason
