Snookie is the new Roseanne.
Not a chance. Roseanne has talent. Snookie represents the little part in all of us that sucks. We know it sucks but we don't fix it. Every 'Jersey stereotype' is exploited and hit with a giganto ray that results in the ugly, unhealthy, uneducated, spoiled, shallow, insecure, and bronzer-smelling clown that currently occupies our cruel and penetrating spotlight. Luckily, almost... more... - Morgan
Oh come on! I can't say i'm a fan of either, but Roseanne has Snookie's total talent in her right pinky. - xixixix

Thank you, Sonic.net! Thank you! "In an era where the buzzwords about broadband and the internet seem to be caps and hogs," he notes, "it's reassuring and exciting to see someone trying to buck the trend and offer what customers want as opposed to what he thinks customers should get."
Scoble, Alex Scoble
It's a sad and funny irony that we want more choice, but are paralyzed by it. Lack of choice actually frees us up to buy things we want/need.
This might also explain why internet retailers haven't yet taken over the world. - Scoble, Alex Scoble
have you seen/read any of the things Barry Schwartz has done on this? really good stuff. - holly #ravingfangirl
Schwartz TED talk here: http://friendfeed.com/zsafwan... - Micah
Micah is one step ahead of me! :) His book Paradox of Choice is a good read also - holly #ravingfangirl
It's not a binary issue of choice vs no choice, JH. The talk is worth a watch. - Micah
And that's the paradox of choice, we think we want choice, but when it comes down to it, too much choice paralyzes us. It's one reason why the stock market is so hard to play, as another example of a system with a large amount of choice. - Scoble, Alex Scoble
Try deciding which PHP framework you should use. Then after weeks of research and fiddling, you ask yourself, "Whither PHP at all?" I'm sorry, did I say weeks—I meant years. - Micah

@Micah agreed! - xixixix
Too much choice offers the chance of being wrong or disappointed. - Johnny from iPhone
Having a very large number of choices to make in any situation is paradoxically limiting -- generally people don't want a large number of more choices .. instead want a smaller number of better choices. That is why brands exist, why we pay attention to trusted reviewers or pundits, why we watch what trusted friends do, buy, use. - Brian Sullivan
I just want a restaurant menu that's not sticky. - Micah

Apple most certainly takes advantage of this anomaly of the human psyche...well most of the time they have, but I think they've gotten away from it a bit, at least on the iPod front. - Scoble, Alex Scoble

"Existence, quality, comprehensiveness and effectiveness of access rights administration and authentication system(s) and process(es):" or "Existence, quality, comprehensiveness and effectiveness of access rights administration and authentication systems and processes:"
What? - Derrick
Hrm, the first. - Derrick
In either case, you need a comma after "comprehensiveness". - Rochelle
Don't bring your Oxford Comma in to this thread! *flamethrower* - Scoble, Alex Scoble
@Rochelle The comma wouldn't be necessary if you're using AP style. Chicago Style would demand it. - Corinne L
Do you really need to cover the singular case (auth system and process)? Just go with the plural. - Michael R. Bernstein
Seriously, though...there's no way, I'm going to switch from AP style to Oxford comma for the task I'm currently doing. It's just not worth it. - Scoble, Alex Scoble
If you *really* need to cover the singular variant, just stick in a 'one or more'. - Michael R. Bernstein
That's my feeling on the subject as well, Michael. - Scoble, Alex Scoble

I think they're both wrong...morally. - Josh Haley
LOL, Josh. Which one is more correct though? - Scoble, Alex Scoble
I think if you start adding a bunch of parentheses in there you clutter up what is already a confusing statement. Therefore, I'd leave out the plural stuff unless it is absolutely necessary. - Kenton
Existence, quality, and how comprehensive and effective the access rights administration and authentication systems and processes are: - NOT THE CRICKET
Wow, OK, Rochelle, you get mad props for seeing the lack of an Oxford comma, since that's what was used everywhere else in this document I'm working for. - Scoble, Alex Scoble
I say no parantheses. Trivia from some English profs I know: the "Oxford comma" (i.e., comma between penultimate and ultimate items in a series) was dropped in AP style to save on ink and space in newsprint, not for clarity or grammatical correctness. That's right, it was all to save a buck. - Kevin L
I'd omit the parentheses--the plural implies the singular as a case. As for Kevin's remark: To some of us, dropping the series comma just looks & reads better. (I could bow to the Absolute Authority of English Profs, but nah...) - Walt Crawford

I like friendfeed and posterous, they give this "intimate" feeling. You can comment and stuff. But even Scoble left ff.
Scoble left ff a long time ago, (now visits once a week maybe) although he used to post from ff a lot, afaik due to a biz. arrangement or something like that. - xixixix
I never had a biz arrangement with FriendFeed. I just don't invest my time in things that don't have a future. On Gillmor Gang on Friday we had a talk with Facebook's CTO (one of FriendFeed's cofounders). It's clear where he's spending his time. Not here. - Robert Scoble
Not with ff, but like i said, something like that. I'm probably remembering it wrong. About the CTO, clearly he doesn't care about ff. You can see it even on monthly unique visitors graphs. What i don't get is why facebook bought friendfeed. If it's just because of some backend software, weird. - xixixix

I guess far from a failure. He might not be caring about it anymore, (twitter did made a home-run on microblogging) but he sold FF for good money ($47.5M in Cash and Stock, according to Techcrunch) and he is CTO of facebook now. No one can consider this as a failure. - xixixix

I was kidding, of course (on my previous post with "like" pun) and did wrote it with exactly the same thoughts. Social networking is very destructive to productivity and it endangers privacy, as Henry Winckelmann said. It feels like yet another way to read RSS feeds, especially on twitter. The people who has the most followers are the same people...

who are already famous, like Britney Spears, Ashton Kutcher & Lady Gaga and i, for one, can't say that i care what they tweet. (ironically, non-social media already lets us know what they tweet) In our high-speed societies, we barely spare time to learn about strangers, so why the heck should we follow strangers? Social networking does provide a way to find and communicate with similar-thinking people, which is not a very easy thing to do offline. But relentlessly posting links of blog posts, especially those on popular blogs (which already automatically post those links) doesn't make so much sense to me at all. Or popular photos or videos for that matter. However, links to less popular (specialized for a special topic, such as physics, for example) blogs most probably doesn't matter too much either, since only a very small percentage of a person's followers would "benefit" from that. In addition to all these, we all have multiple different interests, such as both physics, politics,... more... - xixixix

I'm getting the feeling that i rambled so hard that no one cared? Lovely. - xixixix

How to make someone feel wanted :)

both - ff and twitter. - xixixix
The comment was going to be a little long (for a comment) so I'm gonna ramble a lot on this on my next "update". - xixixix
Wow, apparently i can't post too long for "update" either. - xixixix

friendfeed welcome close to half a million unique visitors monthly. 1/54 of twitter, 1/240 of facebook. Oh boy I feel like a member of an endangered species!
Panda, most probably :) - xixixix
Or a Philippine eagle? - xixixix

VERY differently from twitter, i can see some political thoughts on friendfeed, which is quite nice. I surely wouldn't like ff to turn into a political arena, but i appreciate "real" thoughts. (especially if they are clever)
Maybe because i hope reading different but clever thoughts may help me understand the enormous silliness of Earth. - xixixix

Well, on second thought, maybe i should just get the hell out of both.
your input is quite nice too! indeed sometimes even 1 person counts, a lot. - xixixix

Honestly, how amateur is Twitter? FB seems able to scale no problem but Twitter is beyond a joke at this stage. Thank goodness 4 FriendFeed
I guess a very lower user count helps :D - xixixix

Shoutout! Oh wait. Just imagine how often Twitter would be down if I actually could do Shoutouts... - Louis Gray
Consider that the post appeared in something called "Tech Trader Daily," for the product of a company that cannot currently be publicly traded. - John E. Bredehoft
I'd be more than happy if it stayed down. - JSLeFanu

OQO is coming back or not? http://www.engadget.com/2010...
I like OQO. It was one of those products that couldn't catch a break. - xixixix
