and then I will comment on whoever follows me here...
- Alpay Erturkmen
Louis, I recently got the "high five" DM spam, too. So off-putting!
- Robert J Taylor
from iPhone
I just need to spend more time setting up FF so it is my friend that intercepts all my social media content but only from who I want to read!
- Pentaxfan
Friend feed seems like mainstream to most serious ones?
- jibzy
Friendfeed has it's strengths once you get it setup
- Chris Lindhartsen
@robert whether or not FF is technically better than <insertsocialnetwork> its really a question of said network reach
- Sean Scott
Once a week I go through my followers and delete most/all of the spammers, but I only have like 50-60 so it's not hard to do.
- Allison Warnock
Let's hope the spammers and bots and etc don't attack us here on FriendFeed next. I won't tell them if you don't.
- Louis Trapani
from iPhone
Sean: well, FF has better search, grouping, real time, a better community, and more.
- Robert Scoble
In two years on Twitter I have never used any bots nor even tried to sell anything. I always look at profiles personally before following anyone and have never been concerned with how many are following me.
- Gord Young
See, cross posting that offer to Twitter is misleading
- Kevin Krewell
It is fun to watch my follower ## on Twitter go between 200 and 230 it is a constant battle to see what I post. Just not that interesting at times!
- Pentaxfan
Interesting project! Please follow us @streamfile :)
- Kimmo Gläborg
Checking in here...hope we continue to follow each other, Robert!
- Cathryn Hrudicka
I'm pretty sure I've commented here before Robert, but you don't follow me here or on Twitter. Not that I want you to under just for the sake of it...
- Gurpreet
Today's secret password is "cheese".
- Andrew Smith
...only if you actually find my tweets interesting enough.
- Gurpreet
It's Unfollow Sunday. Just purged all the bots, spammers, SEO/social media types from my own Twitter account. I never autofollow. Still got the "high five" DM spam, though...
- Dennis Jernberg
Nice when you integrate Facebook and twitter and multiple accounts so you can read all at one place. I have to say I use Seesmic to read posts more than FF.
- Pentaxfan
bit bucket... here i come :) ps: scoble, what if we just "like" your post ;)
- simran
@pentaxfan of course. not wanting to start a FF vs Twitter debate. just saying the glasses through which we judge better or superior are diff based on our interests. Plus in the end FB will take it all :P
- Sean Scott
This is a sly way to get us to sign up for FF :)
- valb00
According to my following list, Scoble was the second person I followed after joining Twitter. A long time ago that was.
- Stephen Sclafani
UX tip for FF. Be nice to be able to click on the comment link at the end of a comment stream. Having to scroll back up on these long threads breaks flow.
- Sean Scott
Kimber: wait and watch http://friendfeed.com/scoblei... and see if I like any of your posts. I read a LOT and if you are posting interesting stuff I'll probably like it.
- Robert Scoble
Sean: click twice on the time stamp and you'll get a window of just this chat and you'll see a comment entry area at the bottom.
- Robert Scoble
You will end up following me anyway. They all will. :)
- Matt G
But you're already following me here on Friendfeed, Robert. How is Twitter going to be different?
- Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
FriendFeed is better, deeper, yet Twitter works better on the go
- Majento
There's a lot to like about FF, except it needs a bigger community. Twitter is like the iPhone - for iPhone it's all the applications, with Twitter (and Facebook) it's all about the number of poeple.
- Kevin Krewell
@Sean, that is why we are always looking for new and improved apps to operate at a better level with more consistency. Take it easy! I'm off to bed for my 5 hours of mediocre horizontal time out.
- Pentaxfan
Hi Robert, you are obviously going to be following a lot more people. Thanks.
- Rob Zachritz
And I return. (Just cleared my account so I can start afresh with friend lists) :)
- BeauGiles
Robert, you have lost a lot of followers. I have been watching all night.
- TheHenry
I don't get the appeal of auto-following. I for one would not want thousands of updates showing up in my timeline.
- Alex Knight

- Celia
Really? BTW I'm just a regular geeky gal.
- Teresa O
TheHenry: and I will lose even more this week. No biggie. I don't define myself by who follows me, especially if they are there just to get a follow back.
- Robert Scoble
We're already facebook friends. And I think friendfeed friends too. But FF just hasn't hit critical mass yet. It'll be cool when it does. Nice job throwing another rock at the hornet's nest! :-)
- Dan Becker
Rory: the catch is I might like one of your posts and then you'll have to deal with my other friends. :-)
- Robert Scoble
I'm glad to know that you are still interested in hearing from us :), I'm @tsudo
- Keith - @tsudo
Robin: I have only seen a handful of spams here. They are easily blocked and there are other defenses against them that I won't talk about here.
- Robert Scoble
Are we not allowed to comment if you are already following us?
- RobinDotNet
Are all those SEO types you're unfollowing now following me?!
- Dennis Jernberg
Thing I don't like is that FF doesn't have a very good topic when the primary line is directed at twitter. There may or may not be a link to something after FF part. Which means FF becomes a bit of a treasure hunt. I like FF for commentary but I hate the initial post.
- Justin Howard
Robert: Thanks mate, interesting and probably efficient idea. I'll do the same for quality content, tired of those "I just used whateveryoucallit.com to gain 300 new followers right now!".
- Nir Ben Yona
Hi Robert, I had to do the exact same thing to nail all the twit spam I was getting. Hope you get it all sorted!
- James Brown
Even as we sit here, my iPhone dings with new follow e-mails from spam/marketing people. Sigh.
- RobinDotNet
Stephane: LOL, probably. I took this line from Chris Brogan's "Twitter Etiquette Guide".
- Nir Ben Yona
The joys of not being internet famous means I can check out followers personally, block where required and I've only ever got about 2 DM spam. But with the volumes that Robert gets, it's obviously not possible.
- Rachel Clarke
I think Twitter needs something like captcha to keep the bots to a minimum, IMHO.
- Dennis Jernberg
Robert -- yes, on twitter. It seems the more you tweet, and the more people you communicate with, the more spammers follow you. Hoping for auto-follows I guess (I disappoint them in that regard.)
- RobinDotNet
Good way to filter, you know the spammers don't actually read anything or participate
- Justin Luey
What is the utility of being "followed" by someone who doesn't tweet and who follows thousands? What do they do, sit at their terminal and watch the tweets go by all day long?
- RobinDotNet
First day on Friend Feed and Robert Scoble is available. What a welcome.... Carey@holisticdds
- Carey O'Rielly
What will you do when the spammers/SEOs infest Friendfeed, as they will, or do you believe this is better crowdsourced and will be able to hold against the hordes?
- Aaman (Clone of FF)
Rachel -- But numbers alone don't mean anything. Are they that shallow? That must be a stupid question.
- RobinDotNet
Is this going to be the 'most-commented-ever' post on Friendfeed? 240+ already!
- Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
Aaman: FriendFeed is FAR more defendable against spam than Twitter is.
- Robert Scoble
and how would this benefit people who follow Robert Scoble?
- Seyfi Erol
That seems like a good idea, but I think you're already following a lot of these people
- Carlton Prest
Seyfi: why don't you follow me and see how it goes?
- Robert Scoble
I've gotten 4 follow e-mails since my first post here from people I don't want to follow. Do the bots start running right around midnight?
- RobinDotNet
Mahendra, you're not following the threads in Russian (that's my only hint) :D
- Micah
Robin: oh yes. But I'm never sure what's worse. the people who just want to talk about the numbers or the people they may be able to impress.
- Rachel Clarke
Aaman - Friendfeed doesn't make link-tracking easy, so it's less interesting for spammers to infest.
- Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
Is this a test of interaction or more likely a sort of audience verification?
- Gilgamesh
Gilgamesh: it is what you want it to be. For me I followed you.
- Robert Scoble
If twitter is noise, and FriendFeed is conversation, Robert Scoble followers are their own discussion. It's like using an entirely different website.
- Carlton Prest
Rachel, that's a good point. Is Facebook the same way? I joined that and suddenly got all these people I've nothing in common with who want to be my friend. Creepy.
- RobinDotNet
Derek: heh, yeah, I am watching this, among other things running across my screen.
- Robert Scoble
Robin: Facebook is the same but I think to a lesser extent - it's harder to find people I think. But still got a load of friend requests that I ignore as I don't know them
- Rachel Clarke
I already do. what i mean is if we don't keep FF, Twitter limited to our interests, wouldn't it be garbage we already try hard to get rid of. Or how far can we extend our interests in life or amount of information we consume?
- Seyfi Erol
Derek -- I mean people I really have NO connection with at all. I've only friended a couple of people I work with, and 2 other real friends. I'm getting friend requests from people I don't know at all.
- RobinDotNet
Seyfi: you haven't discovered FriendFeed's groups and lists yet, have you?

Did you know that Facebook has started selling parts of itself to the Russians? At end of May, they sold 1.96% stake of Facebook to Russia's Digital Sky Technologies for $200M.
- RobinDotNet
Robert: I shouldn't have underestimated you. You probably have started much longer comment threads on Friendfeed before.
- Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
Mahendra, Robert, I agree, FF has been very good at keeping out junk
- Aaman (Clone of FF)

Why are you doing this? You have one of the best listening audiences on twitter! Is there a point to prove that we will post here or go to wefollow?
- David Cole
David: and I can prove that. Twitter's audience has become less and less engaged lately.
- Robert Scoble
Wow, powerful shift by Robert Scoble, I'm really interested in seeing how this works for you Scoble. I slept through all the big news here tonight.
- Gimminy
Interesting experiment. This is probably one the most commented feedfriend threads in history!
- Menno te Koppele
Plus, David, if you all are listening, you are listening because of my ability to find cool stuff. Mostly that's been because of FriendFeed over the past 18 months. Now I've seen how ascerbic Twitter's spammers have gotten on my accounts.

- Andrew Piggott
Dean: your Tweets aren't spam. I might keep you. Heheh.

- JP Holecka - Jaypiddy
I'm fairly selective about who I follow and I follow so maybe you will follow me back!
- Richard Cunningham
from iPod
Robert, care to explain how you use groups in this kind of context? Because I don't get the point of following people who are then placed into a "I don't read this much" kind of group. How do you use groups so that you're (1) not overwhealmed, and (2) actually read what people are saying?
- Ian Betteridge
How many people do you expect to end up with, Robert? What is a reasonable number?
- Lise
You don't have to follow me on Twitter. I think the FriendFeed party palace is mighty fine.
- Josette
from fftogo
(Not that I'll probably see your response, btw - something at the bottom of 350+ responses is effectively buried until FF has better threading tools. Which I'm sure it will, some day.)
- Ian Betteridge
@Daniel - ditto, and for me it is generally development related also. Robert - I know you have to try and keep up with everything going on in the social media space, but I'm always surprised when people follow so many others as it must be extremely difficult to find the wheat in amongst all the chaff.
- Donald Matheson
Robert: I did not know about that search trick. Thanks!
- Menno te Koppele
Ian: a "I don't read this much" kind of group is awesome for serrendipity. Also, anyone who I find there who is high value gets quickly moved to a smaller group.
- Robert Scoble
What? Are you saying you're not following me already...? ;-)
- Jarno Peschier
Lise: on Twitter? Less than 2,000. I can't follow more.
- Robert Scoble
Jamo: I am already following you. Scott: why not? I am already following you too.
- Robert Scoble
Robert, it might be a problem for me re-gaining your following as my tweets are not 100% English only (whether that means trying to speak English or no English at all ;). How do you deal with occasional non-English tweeters? As that's clearly a noise for you.
- Tibor Holoda
if only twitter were as engaging as FriendFeed has become, and as instantaneous as things like this comment thread, then maybe I would use it more. Hence why I'm all for unfollowing who you conceive as uninteresting; and if that includes me, then so be it!
- Nick Soden
Tibor: I just skip over most of them. Sometimes I translate them to see if I was right.
- Robert Scoble
It is my hope that I provide you with something as interesting as what you provide me with. Either way, I will continue to peruse your posts with interest.

Hi, you are already following me. My solution to get rid of spammers on Twitter is to block them, that is what I do. If everyone started blocking them, I think things would improve
- Asgeir
What about the SEO experts who accidentally find this feed?
- phil baumann
Robert, but you're following commenters here, not on Twitter, right? Not that i care about Twitter that much, as for me it's just a pipeline. FF and FB are conversational platforms for me, or the places i hang out these days.
- Tibor Holoda
Aaman: Sleep? some of us are just starting the day. We're waiting for the US to go to sleep so we can talk about you ;-)
- Rachel Clarke
Spammers being blocked doesnt do anything as they are hoping for that 1 in 100 hit of someone clicking that link, eventually they get banned and create a new account.
- Charlieray
the term SEO expert is a crock of shit
- Charlieray
Marko: not true. It's better because it has very little spam. It's better because it has a better search engine. It's better because it has comments and likes. It's better because it's an aggregator. And more.

Great way to test the chemistry between FF and Twitter. I like it.
- E-Advocate Network
Robert - I'am definitely not a spammer when it comes to broadcasting anything to people, who doesn't want to hear it :) but I do sometimes respond (mostly on twitter so @reply) to some tweets not aimed on me, but that's what everybody actually asks for when publicly broadcasting anything.
- Dušan Šimonovič
Shhh...don't tell anyone but I'm neither of those (the spammers, SEO experts, the bots, or the social media experts,) though, I like the heck out of the concept of this thread...
- Vincent Wright
Good idea about the unfollow. It was an interesting experiment whilst it lasted but given your lifestyle I'm sure most Twitter messages just passed you by. I never DM'd you however, it was nice to think that I had the option if I wanted to. Anyway I've been on FF for ages now, and what I need is a good FF app (for pc), any ideas anyone?
- Nick Bristow
Nick: I just use a browser with FriendFeed.

@Rob Sellen, did you see the comments on the most recent ffundercats podcast entry. http://friendfeed.com/ffunder... Over 1000 in a very short period of time. Although I expect that this post will also get up to those levels.

My tabby (who looks a lot like that cat, actually) has done similar. When she was very pregnant (meaning, she popped the litter a week later), she caught a full grown bird and brought it in the house.

I know. Me neither. It's fascinating. Another reminder that we're harboring tiny little killers in our homes. Carnivores! rawr

Whoa! That's wild. I have two cats - a 6 year old brother and sister dynamic duo we adopted 3 years ago. Their greatest joy in life is when "a fly" accidentally enters the house. The female cat (Miss Bootsie the Prancing Jewel) makes it her life mission to catch the intruder. They are too funny to watch in action...but nothing like catching a "bat." Way cool!

That is One Awesome Cat! We've had bats in the house a few times. Ours just sits there and follows with her head - like a tennis match.

Curtis, I'm divided. When Steve was NOT on medical leave, it was clearly pertinent. While he was on medical leave, was it our business??? I'm divided.

Well, it didn't seem like they were letting the shareholders and other business interests know.

I need it to translate Southern, if that's possible

I think the fact that the Mac community is so fanatical about Apple's top exec is much to do with it, and the perception that Jobs was the only person on the face of this earth that could run the company really fed this. I think shareholders are right to be upset, but would they have freaked out more had they been told? Did Apple do what was best for shareholders' value?

Curtis, just drop 2 or 3 syllables out of every southern phrase and you will figure out the root word ;-)

—SUDDEN ENTRANCE, STAGE LEFT. Ok, I missed it tonnight. Someone summarize the above 700 comments por favor. (waiting.....)
- Micah
Is there a hint in the order as presented, sir?
- Micah
I'm sorry, Doo Rave. Is that a typical rave except the B-52s provide the music and cans of hairspray are handed out at the entrance?
- Micah
Ok, I've got some scripty 'n junk to do tonight, so I'm going to skip ever line that contains BUNNEH so I can read through this within a few minutes. GO.

I'm never around for the live show :(

Ok, back down to the bottom. Actually, I expected more entropy; I understood way too much of that *du-du-daaaaaaa* ~ and I thought I could pick the best quote, I really did. But I concede, b/c I cannot.

Micah, we talked about your awesome translation script!

CH, oh that's nice. Objectively speaking, this was, quite frankly, a vanity-fail thread for me. But things are shaping up; I may not have to shout SHOW ME THE MONEY to my agent for one night.
- Micah
Joey, *serious tone* it truly is humbling to see a lot of positive response. I hope that more people are helped by it via hearing about it on the show :D

Alfredo, chrisofspades - good to see you comments slide in #we-the-late-to-the-game-squad :)

@orionstar if that is sarcasm or not, you're blocked now. don't talk about ffundercats that way.

Orionstarr? Didn't we block that poser? You're just wasting your breath, Joey. Although, I'm sure Akiva will be happy to tell what happened the last time this troll poked his head out of the ground.
- Steven Perez
Steven, I was here for that. :( I guess that means I didn't join in April, heh. The podcast lies! I had heard that he was going through a difficult time and was hoping that maybe he had emerged with some sensitivity. Not that I expected my comment to change anything, I just felt a pull to publicly defend Johnny and Josh (not that they need it).
- joey
Yeah, my own issues with the o went back a bit further. I would like to feel sorry for him and urge him to get help, but he keeps popping up here and there and dumping in people's threads, all the while screaming about how he's going to leave. *shrugs*
- Steven Perez
Steven, one of the hardest lessons for me to learn/accept is that I can't save everyone. Sometimes people just make their own choices that defy help. Sorry you had your own negative interactions. *HUGS*
- joey
Not to worry; the day I can't handle a troll is the day I quit the internet. :)

Many more to come. By the way, the Navy wants to do another trip with social media people. My first recommendation to them? Thomas Hawk. He'd do a lot better than I did. Of course he'd have to drag along a 600 mm F4.0 lens (big ass lens) to get closer than I did. More photos coming in a few minutes (and some videos too).

Andrew: I almost went into the Marines for six years as a photographer.

Loic: you should go on the next trip. It's unbelieveable. It's like Davos but muliplied by 100x.
- Robert Scoble
Wow, it looks really impressive. What about the water? How do you protect it from harmful sea salt water?
- Susan Beebe
Loic: there's nothing like being 10 feet from an F-18 being catapulted off. Wait until you see the video.
- Robert Scoble
Susan: the water is 40 feed beneath the deck. I never even tasted salt. I see more salt in Half Moon Bay. What you have to worry about is hitting lenses when walking up the stairs and jet wash.
- Robert Scoble
On the trip was a former F-18 pilot too, so he helped a lot in our understanding.
- Robert Scoble
Robert - unfortunately you'll never get to see the F-14 at night, which was always something amazing. If possible, get close to an EA-6B on the Cat, it will rattle your teeth and you'll feel it in your gut (I worked on the flightdeck for 10 years as part of the COD crew).
- Vince DeGeorge
Stairwells are steep and narrow. My brother was a Navy Seal on that ship stationed in SD. Very cool rig! He was a medical rescue diver - jumped down out of helicopters to soldiers injured at sea and brought them back up for transport
- Susan Beebe
Vince: I think we saw one of those, but we saw so many planes land and take off that I lost track. I'm back in the hotel. It was one of those experiences that very few people get to have and it totally changed my life. More on how later. It was a great thing to do just after Memorial Day.
- Robert Scoble
Pavan: out of all the experiences I've had, this is the one that sticks in my mind as the most interesting. Both because it was extraordinarily cool, but also because it is a huge responsibility. I was the eyes and ears for a huge number of tax payers, and seeing how their (my) money is being spent is interesting and a large responsibility.
- Robert Scoble
I can tell you - working on the flight deck, the excitement was ALWAYS there... I never got used to it. Of course, it's not exactly somewhere you want to feel comfortable. For any who haven't seen it, go here: http://www.pbs.org/weta... and watch Carrier. It appears they have the full episodes. Memories... now I'm ready to go back in!!!
- Vince DeGeorge
Robert, also remember, that most of that responsibility falls on kids barely out of high school. The military builds character and trains you like no other corporation in the world. A modern day manager with a $3 mil budget? Ha, how about an 18 year old kid that is responsible for a $30 mil dollar aircraft and the lives of those inside?
- Vince DeGeorge
Yes I'm jealous. Why was I not invited??? LOL Awesome you got to Robert. Truly fantastic!
- Sheryl
Those are some stellar shots you got Robert.
- Jason Hansen
This was a PR event put on by the Navy I take it?
- David Lloyd
Show the world what a modern service it is now and how they are all up on blogging and stuff for recruitment? :p
- David Lloyd
Vince: the sailors I talked to didn't like the PBS special. They said they only put on disgruntled employees. Mark: yes, they fly VIPs, bloggers, journalists onto the carrier for these embarks so that they can get the word out about what the carrier is like. Pavan: thanks, I'm still uploading.
- Robert Scoble
Robert, I agree - they didn't exactly put on the best sailors, but it did give VERY GOOD insight to what carrier life is like. You have to see through some of the drama (though, believe me - there IS that drama in the Navy). I don't know, I may have a different skew on things. I wasn't what was called "Boat Chuck" - I was aviation, which is a little different world - even further, I was CODs, making it even more so.
- Vince DeGeorge
The video will be up after dinner. I got more than 100 photos up to look at in the meantime.
- Robert Scoble
Robert awesome pix. what lenses did u bring? 70-200 IS, wide angle, 600 mm, can u give us a list of what u used? easier than going into "more properties" on Flickr for a ton of photos
- Elliott Ng
I had a 16-35 F2.8 L Series, a 70-200 F2.8 L Series, and a 600 mm F4.0 L Series. I also had a 50 F1.4 for the night stuff.
- Robert Scoble
Awesome! Sign me up! Love it! Great photos!
- Thomas Hawk
Did they let you shoot anywhere you wanted or were some areas off limits?
- Thomas Hawk
Thomas: only two things were off limits: the nuclear power plant and the room where they were playing war games. Everything else was OK to shoot.
- Robert Scoble
very cool. What a fantastic opportunity to shoot. Loved the photos, faved a bunch of them.

"As we pointed out in our review of Hulu Desktop earlier this afternoon, the application renders a “Conflict” message when you attempt to run it with Boxee (Boxee reviews) also open. The message (displayed below) informs you that Boxee has been known to cause problems with the Apple Remote hardware. Boxee, apparently, wants evidence. The company has responded with a blog post, writing “we would appreciate it if you remove the misleading message that you pop up to boxee users. boxee does not cause problems with the Apple Remote hardware. There is a setting in boxee … that lets the users decide whether they’d like boxee to always respond to the remote.”"

You can now choose which of your services you want displayed on your profile page. The option is available at the bottom your services page at https://friendfeed.com/account.... (We will otherwise select five icons to show automatically.)
Uh, bug. Nasty bug. I can't see some of my services, the box is taller than my screen. You should columnize them or make the list scrollable or something.
- Chris Charabaruk
I wish we could choose more than five. :-(
- darnell
from BuddyFeed
Yep, only five for now. We have gotten lots of feedback that the icons became useless when there were too many because you couldn't find the useful profile pages within the countless imported feeds. This lets you choose the few that have the most relevant profile info, but keeps the icon explosion from happening.
- Bret Taylor
Again. This is the same issue we had with the Rooms dialogue in the old interface. Didn't anyone check this first? What freakin resolution do the FF devs run at, anyway? LOL
- Rahsheen?
Rah, I'm 99.7% sure they use portrait mode on their monitors.
- AJ Batac
You'll take your five icons...and you'll like it! Thanks for the new feature.
- Mark Krynsky
Chris Charabaruk: some of us on macbook pros and other machines don't use scroll wheels. i agree with others that the truncation bug needs to be fixed. and, only five choices defeats the purpose of adding any more. some of us already have more services set up are used to seeing them. don't limit everybody in the process of simplifying it for a few, if it can be helped. thanks.
- sɹǝɥʇɐǝɟʞɔɐןq
Bret, Casey, thank you for this. Can you either make the list of services on the new screen either scrollable or in a smaller dialog box with a scroll bar? There's a bug that if you have a lot of services you cannot see the bottom of the list. :-(
- Kol Tregaskes
Love this, but can't use it because I use too many services. I can't scroll down the list.
- Thomas Hawk
A vertical screensize of 1200 pixels fixes mine. Your mileage may vary. I chose more than 5 services and let FriendFeed pick, presumably the way it can, had i chose less than 5.
- John Lam
Ok, I logged on on a PC and used the ctl scroll wheel trick and it worked.
- Thomas Hawk
great! I only want to show the most important feeds in my profile; and not clutter my profile with too many feeds that I include
- Jeroen De Miranda
Any word on the Iphone FF web? Or any news of an app? I can't see "my" discussions on the Iphone web version.
- orionstarr
That's a simple but crucial feature, in my estimation. But if I had to be fussy (which I usually am), the option to (re)order them would be also be good.
- Wayne Smallman
agree with wayne. I'd like to draw more attention to my blog, and less to my twitter ;-)
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Now if we could just select the order they display in - a' la Google Profile. Speaking of Google Profile... is FF planning on adding that to the list of services?
- Alexander Grundner
"Now that Last.fm is restricted in most countries, the obvious alternative (already discussed in previous posts) was to start offering support for similar services for people that cannot / don’t want to use Last.fm anymore. So here is Vagalume with support for Libre.fm: (this is not ready yet, but expect a new release in a few days/weeks)"

It'd be nice if we could post comments on your FriendFeed widget directly on your blog, without having to jump here on friendfeed.com to post the comments. The CrunchCam page embeds an iframe that let's you do that, but a smooth AJAX integration would be nicest
- Charbax
Well adding a comment brings me back to the FF site, would be nice if it could be in-line inside the widget
- Robert
Thank you to the friendfeed team for showing me how to do this. Turns out the easiest way to upgrade your widget to the new style is to search for where it says "v=2" and change it to "v=3".
- Robert Scoble
I just checked the widget site, and V=3 is already default. I just checked my own embbeded widget added months ago to http://jemimus.net, and it already uses V=3 ... so what is new exactly?
- Robert
Robert: on my blog I was using V=2. It wasn't real time. This one is now.
- Robert Scoble
@charbax actually u can post from his blog.. i am posting this from scobleizer.com =)
- Ruhani Rabin
@Ruhani Rabin Hey you are right. That is wierd, I could have sworn it didnt work 10 mins ago!
- Robert
@Ruhani, yup I think Robert Scoble just updated it to do the iframe embed thing instead of the AJAXy widget. My guess is that it would be coolest if a javascript widget could support on-page real-time comments externally, but I guess an iframe is better since it provides a scroll bar to scroll on the first 30 items
- Charbax
Forgive the dumb question, but how is this different than how I have it on my site? My site sells nothing, just an aggregator via friendfeed. A micro-blog I guess, cause sometimes 140 characters is almost too much work. http://kevinmurray.com
- Kevin Murray
One of the nicest features of the new version of FriendFeed is the ability to embed a FriendFeed item inside a blog post. So when a Ffundercats post mentions the FriendFeed items discussed on that week's podcast, you can put the relevant items right into the post, and continue to discuss them.
- John E. Bredehoft
from fftogo
@Kevin Murray, if you click "comment" on your embedded javascript widget, it sends you to a new window on friendfeed.com/something instead of letting you comment directly from the site if you are already logged-in with a cookie on friendfeed
- Charbax
And I find out that v=3 doesn't mean realtime, just a new version matching the friendfeed style redesign.
- Lizunlong
I would like an answer to Lizunlong's question, too, because I only see the embed version that jumps the person back to FF rather than like Robert's site. Best I can see is he used an iframe of a page on his site that embeds FF. http://friendfeed.com/scoblei... Anyone?
- LPH™ and his dog P™
LPH: Yup, I used the iFrame version.
- Robert Scoble
I wish there was a clever way to get it out of the frame.
- Kol Tregaskes
Sure is displaying weird in chrome2(dev) If I scroll down through the comments on this post, I get blurred or repeated blocks of lines. I do like that I can comment right here on the page. Probably have to go add it to my blog now. :-)
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
@guruvan - I'm in chrome 2 dev channel and it displays fine. A video driver update if available might fix that.
- John Rubier
Interestingly enough, I get that only when the Google widget below is not visible.
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Yep, getting some issues with Chrome 2 dev where when you scroll you lose text rendering and only have colors, images. Sometimes, a specific height on the page makes everything normal, but as soon as you scroll you're going at it again. Try maximizing, it did the trick for me at the time...

Let me know when you go to lunch. I'm gonna blog it :P

Robert, I figured out a way to use object tag but this shows for Chrome and Firefox but not IE. This is because IE doesn't understand the mime type. Therefore, I chose to use the object and within the alternative to object text I placed the iframe for IE.... seems to work. Code looks like this: <object type="application/xhtml+xml" data="http://friendfeed.com/lph..."...

I am also trying to get this to work...anyone know how to set it up like Roberts where users can comment without being redirected to FF?
- Gary Gannon
very cool, smart tech from Friendfeed ! this is how you rule ... other sites fight to be framed, FF is showing off the power by nesting itself into small widget frames ! cool again ! :] .. flexible intelligence .. the future is now
- pb:
I noticed the new theme Robert, nice and clean, although that Google Friend connect bar at the bottom kind of sucks and is annoying.
- Allen Harkleroad
@Allen .. tell that to Google ! .. is there somebody working on this? :]
- pb:
Ok, so it looks like it's just an iframe of: http://friendfeed.com/USERNAM... Interesting... (and I just realized that this had already been stated, ok, ignore my comment :P)
- Aaron Kurtz
For the html/web impaired like myself, how would one create this iframe? :-)
- Gary Gannon
I just copied the code off of Roberts page :) <iframe src="http://friendfeed.com/USERNAM..." style="border: 1px solid rgb(170, 170, 170);" width="290" frameborder="0" height="800"></iframe> You'll need to adjust the height and width to work best with your blog. On a wordpress blog, you can add it as a widget TEXT that lets you drop html code into the sidebar. I'm sure blogger has something similar.
- Aaron Kurtz
from IM
Backslaps to Robert and LPH. Thanks.
- SteamCentral
Aaron, careful on using iframes because they are a security risk. I'm sure Robert will change this soon.
- LPH™ and his dog P™
LPH, I'm torn between the two. I don't think the JS widget is real time, or allows inline commenting, the two biggest draw backs for me. The iframe allows those things, but you have no control over the text style (thinking mainly font size) being displayed on the /embed page. Didn't consider the security drawback though, thanks.
- Aaron Kurtz
@scobleizer: I like http://wordpress.org/extend... (when mouse over name, lets users bookmark @retaggr card). Also prefer embedding their card on site - but showing feeds via FriendFeed. See: http://www.retaggr.com/Tools. Liking the blog progress tho. Thesis is hugely powerful.
- Courtney Engle
"Currently it seems the top three services fighting for the “real time feed” crown are Twitter, FriendFeed and Facebook. Dave Winer recently asked what FriendFeed would be if it didn’t pull in Twitter - the answer is simple: a service with very little activity. But for all three services, I find that there is nothing but confusion over the structure of how the three services work together and can imagine that mainstream Internet users face the same issues. I will use Friendfeed in the examples below because it faces the most mainstream issues but there are similar issues with all three services."

It seems that commentators consider they are fighting it but I think FF has alot of different things to offer like trending information that has had lots of comments or likes. "ZumoDrive is an online storage service that everyone can use to store their files in the Cloud and access them from different computers. What makes it different from the rest of its competitors is the way it manages the data on your computer. Most storage services create a folder on your local hard drive and sync all of the data to/from that folder. This might be a good idea in order to keep the data in sync, but what if you are using a 4GB Netbook and you have 10GB of data in the cloud? Your Netbook won’t be able to hold all the data."
- Kol Tregaskes
from Bookmarklet
This sounds really good. I'd like to use a online file storage service, which one would you recommend?
- Kol Tregaskes
@Kol If you just wanna dump stuff and forget it, I'd recommend Drop.io or Filedropper. If you're looking for syncing, Dropbox is the leader by far in terms of platform support. HOWEVER, Zumo could kill Dropbox overnight if it supports direct linking, which Dropbox does many file storage sites don't.
- LANjackal
Yeah looking for syncing, I'll give Dropbox a go just wished it gave us more space for free. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Meh. Doesn't allow direct links. Dropbox still rules. Uninstalling as we speak. Oh well. Oh yeah and complete uninstallation requires a reboot. Eww. Not worth it IMO
- LANjackal
ZumoDrive is very similar to JungleDisk (paired with Amazon S3 or Rackspace.com). .. I think I'll stick with JungleDisk for now.
- Peter Ghosh
It is similar to JungleDisk, but I like the mobile client. I store my music on my ZumoDrive and stream it to my iPhone. Helps me get around the 8GB local storage limit. ;)

I started using this last night. Very nice. I definitely will upgrade the storage in the near future.
- Tom Searing
This is excellent I am thinking of using it and upgrading to a monthly fee.

I'm using DropBox & Livemesh (have some MS addict around me) but i like the Zumo approach of using the cloud as extra storage and not only synced miror, i think that none of the others offer it right now - it's still not there (seamless "cloud") . wish i had the time and funds to execute an idea that will get further into "seamless cloud"
