Many Eyes is a bet on the power of human visual intelligence to find patterns. Our goal is to "democratize" visualization and to enable a new social kind of data analysis. Jump right to our visualizations now, take a tour, or read on for a leisurely explanation of the project.

Nowadays, it might be accurate to say that screen real estate is worth more than actual real estate. As web developers, we spend precious time laying out our pages, using every UI concept in the book to conserve space, while trying to maintain a user's focus on the task at hand. There are many techniques to use Lightbox, Carousel and Tabs to name a few and today I hope to offer up another: jQuery pageSlide. jQuery pageSlide was inspired by the UI work of Aza Raskin. In his recent posts regarding concepts for Firefox Mobile and a mouse-based Ubiquity, Aza introduced the idea of sliding (or "throwing") content aside to reveal a secondary content pane.

The Ident Engine is part of a year long personal project into combining social graph data with other open data sources. With over 1.3 billion hCard profiles on the web and RDF growing in strength, the semantic web has reached a tipping point. I built the Ident Engine to show that constructing user experiences by blending semantic web APIs and other open data sources is not only practical, but offers exciting opportunities.

Creating equal-height columns with CSS is sometimes a bear. But who needs the hassle of faux columns, “clear” divs and the rest? With this bit of jQuery, you can easily equalize the heights of any group of elements. This technique was born of frustration. I ran into two layout problems while working on the redesign of CSS Newbie one afternoon, and both were directly related to the varying heights of elements. The first problem was in the footer. If you look closely, you’ll see that there is a nice subtle two-tone border in between each of the columns in the footer.

It has long been common practice to use recurring solutions to solve common problems. Such solutions are called design patterns; standard reference points for the experienced user interface designer. This website seeks to better the situation for the UI designer, who struggles with the same problems as many other UI designers have struggled with before him. This site will help you in two ways: You can read insightful design pattern articles or browse through our screenshot collection.

If you have read any of my previous posts about the mighty WordPress, then you might be able to work out I am a big fan! Very true indeed! Infact 99% of the sites I have done use it. When creating a design I won’t build it into WordPress from the start, main reason is that I can concentrate fully on the HTML/CSS code and not have to worry about PHP loops, etc. Much simpler! I use Lorem Ipsum to generate text to bulk out my design and give me a more realistic feel of how it will look live, which is great. When I come to integrating the site into the WordPress CMS I end up left with a kind of ‘blank canvas’ containing just the default ‘Hello World’ post! Having to continuously create fake posts/categories/tags/comments to check it all works within WP is well, Very Frustrating :( For anyone else who has the same problem as me, this ones for you. Download the .XML linked below and import this into your WordPress installation and problem is sorted, the .XML will import the following:

I like the little icons next to hyperlinks that signify if that link will take me offsite, open a popup, or link to a file (as opposed to another html page). Here's how to do it in a way that's supported in IE7, Firefox, and Safari.

So what's this all about, then? Simple enough really. Rather than having to remember / write down a different password for every site you visit, we allow you to remember a single password ( we call it the master password ). You can then use this one master password to generate a different password for every site you visit. A different password for each website? Yep. Ask yourself what would happen if someone found out your email address and password on any given site you use. If you only used that password once, then you only have one site to worry about. But if you've used the same password for your email / amazon / paypal / bank then you could end up with a real catastrophe on your hands. Sounds sensible
