I get heartburn when non-hackers explain technology. Tonight on Fresh Air Terry Gross interviewed Ken Auletta, author of the new book Googled: The End of the World As We Know It.

An interesting perspective on the sometimes adversarial relationship between in-house managers and the consultants they are forced to work with.

"My brother and I wondered into Kabuto after our dinner plans downtown were canceled. He lives literally right around the corner from Kabuto but had never been. We walked in and the place was full.…"

Beautiful.....! When I was in Florence, I didn't own a camera then. It's almost the same spot where I did some pencil sketches. Very nice picture! I've been meaning to go back to Florence for the museums, and this lovely shot is another reason to go back. Need to find another $200 SFO-ROM round-trip!

Thanks for the praise guys - that photo was taken with my old, trusty Canon A320 just before it died on me - sadly the resolution was only 3 megapixel so it would be a bit week for a dual-screen setup
- Frederic
@mitchell - sadly, for the time being $200 SFO-ROM trips are probably out of the question - the only routes the airlines are really making money are the international long-hauls.... but Florence is such a beautiful city, flying there is worth a lot more than $200 :)

Sad to hear about your A320. I'm on my 3rd Canon camera. Canon A520 (Nov 2005 $165) was pickpocketed in Brussels by an amazing guy!! Canon A710 IS (Nov 2006 $249) screen cracked 1 year & 6 days after I bought it... So I got a Canon S5 IS with 12X zoom (Dec 2007 $333).

Best SFO-Europe fares I've been seeing lately are $350-450 with all the taxes. Courtesy of another wonderful community http://flyertalk.com, I snagged Aug 2003 NYC-VEN (Venice) $215 ($143 + taxes), Nov 2005 SFO-MIL (Milan) $208 ($110 + taxes), Nov 2005 SFO-ZRH (Zurich) $216 ($110 + taxes), Nov 2005 SFO-MUC (Munich) $194 ($90 + taxes), Nov 2005 SFO-VEN $203 ($110 + taxes) ... and I volunteered on one trip & got an $800 voucher which paid for 4 of the Europe trips.

I love Flyertalk (I'm mostly the Continental Onepass forum there) - your schedule there makes me very jealous, though - my international travel these days is typically to Europe once a year and once or twice to Colombia - but the good thing about Europe is that the discount airlines are so cheap that you can travel to a bunch of countries in Europe for very little money. This year, however, we switched things up and went to Maui instead :)

Just came back from SFO-NRT (Tokyo) May 2008 for $41 (using AA miles). My favorite recent sales were SFO-HRG (Egypt) Mar 2007 for $482 ($362 + taxes) and SFO-RAK (Morocco) Mar 2007 for $528 ($368 + taxes). Every community offers different benefits, which is why I wonder about all the bloggers leaving Facebook. Facebook helps me in different ways than FriendFeed.

Fabulous shot! Love the composure, the colors, the whole thing.

Nice to hear you're on FlyerTalk (I'm mitchell). How was Maui? I haven't been to that island, and I've been hearing from a lot of people doing Maui. I sent my parents there for Spring Break 2007, and they thought it was too commercial. ... Travel is a big reason why I opted to retire May 2007. Yay! I got started traveling big-time in 2002 when I was dating a lady in NYC while living in LA. It turned into 36X around the world - 860,000 miles in 6 years. Used to hate flying. :-(

How did you send the photo to Friendfeed?
- Andrea B
@andreab: http://www.mail2ff.com @mitchell: we loved Maui, but this is also their slowest season there, so we ended up being on the beach alone for sunsets a couple of times. I avoid touristy stuff as much as I can, so we spend very little time on the South Western coast or any of the major tourist areas besides Lahaina. And we willfully ignored most "No Trespassing" signs and ended up hiking to a lot of beautiful places where there was absolutely nobody else around...
