Kol: That's pretty neat. Wish it was shorter like wave.com or gwave.com (Google owns gwave.com anyway) or something.
- Nick Humphries
i think this @googlewave.com email address is a temporary thing during testing. after it goes live you should be able to just use it with your google account. at least that's what i think:)
- Taylan Aydınlı
if only you could bold an announcement in FF like you can in Wave :D [oh, and my username on Wave is the splendiforously original "adamlasnik"]

Karoli: is that your google wave nick or are you sniffling? :)
- Ahsan Ali aka. Slick
I'm sniffling because I don't have a google wave nick. Despite two invites, there is still nothing in my inbox. I am not in with the in crowd. :(
- Karoli
Karoli -- It appears as if there's a batch of emails going out now. Keep checking.

Wow. Thanks Kol!!! Here's mine for all ya'll to add - walt.ruppar@googlewave.com - although I just added like 150 of the above. While also deleting my pity pleads for an invite... ;-)
- Walt Ruppar
I'll start with a few that I've experienced over the past few weeks. Could be because they resolved an issue or they were just friendly and helpful.

strange why such few word posts get so many comments...

The Rite-Aid in the Factoria area of Bellevue, WA. An employee couldn't find what I was looking for but after I gave up she kept looking and tracked me down in the store to give it to meyee

I love sharing this because it's just so genius to me but from what I understand, Zappos will actually offer an incentive to their trainees. Big deal, you say. Difference being that they offer money for people to LEAVE their training program. They figure anyone who takes the money and runs just wouldn't fit in with the company and their philosophy. I love that.
- pea ♥ fierce as a woozle
Companies don't provide customer service, people do.
- Steve
Companies can prioritize and develop customer service as a value of their culture. They can also create policies that empower people to provide customer service or they can create policies that don't.
- joey
Perhaps, Fanman, but those people wouldn't have jobs without the companies for which they work. So imagine the question worded thus: "which companies hire, train, and nurture the best cs people?" and then contribute something more useful than a semantics lesson. :)
- Bren, Photophobe
from iPhone
Amazon, Sephora and Zappos have all been said but those are the top three for me. And personally, AT&T has always been perfect to me - they've been my mobile carrier since 2001 and I've never had a problem with their service at all, even when I got the $500+ phone bill and they kindly credited $300+ back due to some crazy issues...
- Miriella
Sorry, not meant to be a semantics lesson. I take personal satisfaction in the customer service I am able to provide within an environment that does lend itself well towards that experience. My company talks a good game, but does not necessarily provide the back end resources to actually deliver on those promises. I take customer service as a personal responsibility and do everything in my power to ensure a quality transaction. *realizes this is off topic* I have always loved Cabela's.
- Steve
Rochelle: indeed, for the most part, our cs is very good!
- Bren, Photophobe
from iPhone
Fanman, I think it's respectable that you take it as a personal responsibility even if your company doesn't provide you what you need. Good on you, seriously. People like that make my days much nicer.
- joey
Sorry i snapped prematurely, Fanman! I just get annoyed with people (including me, sometimes) turning useful conversations into grammar/spelling/semantics lessons... I took your post that way in error, my bad!
- Bren, Photophobe

Scott, what I like best about them is that I can return items that don't fit at no cost to me, so it's no risk if I see something cute that ends up not fitting.

Applica Consumer Affairs (the customer service company for George Foreman grills) treated me extremely well when I needed info about my outdoor grill.

Once I got to the right people, HP had really good customer service, but the three or four levels of guys asking "Have you tried turning the computer off and then on again?" that I had to go through before getting to the helpful people were a little frustrating.

Dish Network customer service Rocks! I've been a customer for 10 years and they consistently provide good service whenever I call them for help.

I've had it up to --> here <-- with AT&T. I have the money to jump back to Verizon (including the early termination fee for AT&T). Should I? What smartphones are there on Verizon that don't suck?
I'm interested in the answers. Tho I'm an Apple fan, I still haven't gone iPhone because I'm not going ATT. Of course, what I'd really like to see is American consumers getting the freedom Europeans have - to choose our hardware separate from our providers, to not be charged for *incoming* calls...
- Spidra Webster
That's the problem with Verizon. Unless you want some WinMo crappiness or a Crackberry, you're SOL when it comes to smart phones. Plus, don't ever travel overseas...
- Kevin Pedraja
Requirements: Good app availability, GPS, camera, media playback, SDK. Disqualifications: Windows Mobile, Blackberry. Anything that relies solely on the Verizon store software.
- Jason Huebel
What exactly are you fed up with? Do you think threatening them with cancelling will help?
- Lindsey is Fierce!
If you wait a couple months VZW will have a few Android phones.
- MVB (Curmudgeon of FF)
That's the thing... I've been telling myself to wait until the end of the year to switch, but I'm /really/ tired of AT&T at this point. I've got the itch to switch.

i have a tour on verizon (work) it's pretty sweet (but i also have an iphone on att which is my personal cell)...

My Verizon Blackberry Curve (work) does what I need it to do. I can even access Active Directory. I am sure - as you make any move towards a phone decision, the next day Apple with offer the IPhone on Verizon. :) I look forward to that day too.
- Mike Nencetti
Here's what I think is going to happen. iPhone's going to open up to other carriers and tens of thousands of AT&T users are going to bolt, thus improving the speed and reliability of their network. Hey, a guy can dream can't he?
- Jim Hearts FF
Wait until the end of this month, Verizon & Google just announced a partnership, and are going to have quite a few Android phones - the Motorola 'Droid looks very cool
- Les Zaldor
AT&T is much more expensive regarding family plans than others I have looked at. I have no problem giving up my iPhone, not like it's "cool" anymore anyways.
- Spencer
@Thomas, it's really not a matter of IF I'll do it. It's more a matter of WHEN. I'm leaving AT&T at some point. I have terrible service where I live-- which is also my place of business. So I have to move off of AT&T to a provider with good service. My wife has Verizon, which works perfectly at our home (and is what I moved off of when I got my iPhone). If there will be new Android...
- Jason Huebel
AT&T does suck, but it's the only way to get the iPhone (for now) in CA at least and the phone itself is pretty damn good.
- Thomas Hawk
from iPhone
Had one, loved the console, hated the design, sold it (happily for more than I paid because of the rising demand), and thought about getting it again as soon as it came in slim.
- Thomas Bøhm
On the other hand the old one will be pricedropped from tomorrow on... The new one is here the first week of September at EUR 299 in Europe.
- Thomas Bøhm
Also, I don´t have a bluray player so that increases the Wife Acceptancy Factor (though I have been fanatical about removing space consuming plastic media from my home).
- Thomas Bøhm
Mine died...they say the new one consumes less power, so if that's a factor, you might wanna wait the two weeks for the new one to show up. I'm scouring the interwebs to find an official picture and failing.
- Derrick
I literally JUST bought a PS3 like 3 weeks ago.
- James Ferguson
@James: Oops.. :-/ @Derrick: These guys promised an official picture of it as soon as they got through the crowd to the press room (Norwegian site): http://www.dagbladet.no/spill...
- Thomas Bøhm
@James So did I - bought it a little over 1 month ago! I had a feeling the price would be dropping too! :(
- Les Zaldor
A lot more subtle and discreet design. And does not look like a pregnant alien spaceship in the living room anymore.
- Thomas Bøhm
This is pretty awesome news, btw. As a current PS3 owner it hurts slightly because the new people are getting a smaller, sleeker, much better looking console for cheaper than I did. On the plus side (and this is a huge plus side) there will now be a crapton of people on PSN and multiplayer games should get a good boost. 8^) EDIT: I'm most excited that more people will get to experience the awesomeness of Fat Princess! 8^D
- Chieze Okoye
Gotta love improvements in the manufacturing process.
- Chieze Okoye
Don't seem to see anything on any e-tailer sites about them having it for sale. September is right around the corner. EDIT: I spoke too soon, it's on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/PlaySta...
- Derrick
Maybe Amazon Germany? I seem to remember that being one of the sites that engadget saw it pop up on while they were covering news of the at-the-time rumor.
- Chieze Okoye
Amazon.co.uk has it on pre-order for £249. I'm seriously tempted. My wife wouldn't be pleased though.
- Paul Grav
Mine neither. But sometimes I manage to slip things into the house unnoticed. That´s why I had to wait for the slim matte one;)
- Thomas Bøhm
My first run through college I was a music major and I practically lived in the recording studio at school and then later on at several professional studios (a story for another time)...anyway the curriculum i was in was based on Mr. Paul's and his wife's multitrack recording techniques and innovations. I consider myself very fortunate to have seen Les Paul live on several occasions. His death is a huge blow to the industry. RIP Les Paul.
- Carlos Ayala
I've never actually tried one. It just sounds unappetizing. And that's coming from someone who loves trying new foods. Maybe when I have the oppurtunity I'll give it a try.
- Andrew Dobrow
They can be very good, though. Especially with some nicely grilled tilapia.
- Ha3rvey (not Akiva)
I hear this all time time, but as someone who grew up in San Diego with neighbors from Baja, that just means more for me. :)
- Derrick
Derrick, do they make tacos with fried cod in San Diego? I've had that here in Dallas. It seemed weird, but it wasn't bad.
- Ha3rvey (not Akiva)
I don't know if they used cod, they used whatever they caught out in the ocean. I loved going down the Rosarita Beach and camping out with my Mexican neighbors. They'd also catch fresh lobster, split it in half and just throw it on the grill with fresh tortillas and virgin margaritas (hey, I was twelve).
- Derrick
love fish tacos. but not fried. I don't like fried anything in a taco.
- jbrotherlove
I've never had one either. This is unsurprising given I don't eat fish or, really, anything from the sea
- Soup
Agreed. I love fish and love tacos, but the thought of them together is wholly gack-inducing.
- Christian (Simply X)
They are the best thing on the planet. Maybe you've been doing them wrong? Add more lime!
- Josh Haley
It's something about the taco shell mixed with seafood. I dunno, I can't place it. It just seems so wrong.
- Andrew Dobrow
Andrew, I've never had one with a taco shell. They're always soft tacos. Often corn. NOMNOMNOM
- Ha3rvey (not Akiva)
I love fish tacos when I'm on the coast and it's fresh fish, but I'm not too sure about this LJS fish taco :/
- Tsali, The Native of FF
The LJS tacos are exactly what I was referring to.
- Andrew Dobrow
Andrew, did you just watch "I Love You Man"?
- Rubin Sfadj
HA! No, but it is on my Netflix queue. Should I look for a fish taco reference?
- Andrew Dobrow
Ah, the LJS tacos... I haven't been brave enough to try them. Come to think of it, I haven't been brave enough to eat at a LJS in years. My kids used to love those little crispy bits of extra batter.
- Ha3rvey (not Akiva)
OK, I see the problem here... Traditional fish tacos are NOT made with a crunchy shell. They are usually made with 2 flimsy corn tortillas. Flour can be substituted, but only for pansies. The other ingredients besides the blackened or fried fish are usually cabbage or lettuce and a spicy tartar sauce or salsa and lime juice. That's it. Does it sound better now?
- Josh Haley
Honestly, yes it does. The hybrid of the two foods though just sounds so bizarre. But I'm willing to try anything. The Long John Silver commercial just sort of turns me off.
- Andrew Dobrow
The LJS fish tacos are an abomination and should be outlawed. Real fish tacos = finely chopped grilled white fish of choice with chopped onions, loads of cilantro (at least, in my world), and lime juice on corn tortillas. Quite the tasty (and now I want some!)
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Yeah, Long John Silvers is not a good comparison by any stretch. I think they grind up trolls or something. and Hi Tina!
- Josh Haley
If I ever have a fish taco, it sounds like it should not be from a fast food joint. I'll have to seek out a decent one. Or attempt to make one myself.
- Andrew Dobrow
Del Taco sells Fish Tacos, never had one myself though. But reminds me of a song I heard on ep50 of @theolinezrashow !
- Les Zaldor
Sonic is pretty good. I love that they sell tater tots and my daughters love to go and "drive in"
- Bill Rawlinson
GRRRRRRR... not my picks from Sonic, but thanks just the same for rubbing it in that they don't exist anywhere at all in CA.
- ɐ ɯıʞ sıɹɥɔ
My Ocean Water was sub-par: this location doesn't put enough blue coconut syrup in it. But it's my traditional Coney beverage, so I had to get it. I've been eating this same meal for 15 years now, starting at the Governor's School when we'd walk to the Sonic in Hartsville.
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Sonic's Texas Toast Grill Cheeses are the best.
- Matthew
Their cherry limeade is one of my all-time favorite beverages, so good!! I realize looking at the pic that everyone can see my scribbly work notes. Pay no mind to those Notes doc IDs, 'kay?
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
I've made sweet love to the breakfast burrito combo many a nights and mornings!!
- Lokei Atikus™®
My wife would shoot you for that right now.... but we are getting to go to one when we go to Dover for the race later this month.
- Jeff Quinton
So *that's* what a footlong Coney is! Damn, I have some apologising to do...
- Andy Bold
The only thing that would make that better would be their onion rings.
- Alex Scoble
We need Sonics closer to us here in Jersey. Wah.
- Great Scott!
Sadly, I don't care for their onion rings, and the tots are only good IMO with chili and cheese. I have a rule about only eating one chili-cheese coated item per meal, so it's always fries (dipped in BBQ sauce) with my Coney.
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Yeah, I could see how you could dislike their onion rings since they taste like donut batter, but I find the taste simply irresistible...like crack in the shape of an onion ring.
- Alex Scoble
+@ha3rvey on the tots! When I was a tot myself, Sonic used to have these really cool little plastic animals they'd put on the kid drink lid/straw. My favorite was the red monkey with the curly tail.
- ɐ ɯıʞ sıɹɥɔ
They should stack onion rings on the foot long then deep fry it in peanut oil.
- Moved to Facebook
from fftogo
Alex, I'm a picky bitch when it comes to onion rings. I don't like them in any kind of heavy or corn meal based batter. Thin batter only, the lighter the better.
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Tina's got nothing to worry about: the biggest tease, when it comes to Sonic, is that like 50% of all the TV commercials are for EFing Sonic. WTF is that all about. Talk about a broken marketing model.
- ɐ ɯıʞ sıɹɥɔ
Yum. Luckily I just had enchiladas at Chuys, so I am immune to wanting this ... sorta :)
- Patrick Jordan
Brings back memories of sitting in line on opening day of the first Sonic in Michigan about 1 year ago! Gotta love Sonic! :)
- Les Zaldor
ugh . . . you're killing me. i haven't been to Sonic in years. I think the closest one is like 40 mins though. Might have to make the journey
- Lindsey is Fierce!
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh I just have a new Sonic that opened in Ashland. I'm there!
- Mike Lewis
As an aside, I really need to thank my parents for my metabolism... Good thin they're coming over for dinner tonight!

Thanks Tina. I now know what I want for dinner. Off to the supermaket!

What does Ocean Water taste like, Tina?
- Laura B.
Ocean Water is Sprite with blue coconut syrup mixed in. Quite tasty when done properly.
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Its times like these that I wish I could hit Like more than once.
- Russell Holliman
I tried Sonic for the first time a few weeks ago and the burger was excellent. Later I went online to check calorie counts on a hunch --- OMG.
- Fred Yankowski
mmm I'll take a Cherry Limeade, please! :)
- holly
im drinking a grape slush as we speak :)
- (jeff)isageek
Just checked, there's one 28 miles away... Maybe while out on a "Sunday" drive...?
- Ron Thompson
Love the chili cheese tots. Also, every time I go I get a different shot of flavor for my soda. Grape-flavored coke, watermelon-flavored root beer. Lemon and lime flavored coke is so good!
- Alisha Vargas
Oh, and they do have them in California. There are several around Sacramento and I know of one down 99 in Modesto. I think I've seen them in LA too.
- Alisha Vargas
We only have one or two Sonics in Minneapolis, but the first one is only a few miles from me. I've got a hankerin for a Coney and a Cherry Limeade right now... :-)
- Rick Kaiser
Tempting. Sprint will have this later and have the option to include this in their Simply Everything plan for $150/mo. That's a phone with unlimited minutes + data along with the MiFi with 5GB/mo cap. Doubt I'll do that though.
- Rodfather
Big Brother can already (thanks to the "stimulus" bill) decide for your doctor how he/she can/should treat you, so why not? I mean, Big Brother knows best, apparently.
- Craig Eddy
Pshh, okay tin foil hat wearers, simmer down. The internet control is only for my use, plus it'll be nice to have a programmable thermostat. I need to squeeze every last cent out of my electric bill.
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
Who is doing the controlling, you or the electric company?
- Rochelle
The fine print, from the mailer: "When demand for electricity is at its highest, Peak Saver participants agree to let CPS Energy remotely access their central air conditioners to cycle compressors off for short periods of time - about 10 mins each half-hour - from 3pm - 7pm M - F only during peak demand months."
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
Now they have another excuse to raise your rates!
- Paul
So can we take the tin foil hats off now, Sean?
- Craig Eddy
If this were Houston and I was dealing with Reliant energy, I might agree. CPS is a lot better.
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
What kind of Thermostat can you control via internet? I want one!
- Les Zaldor
Only 10 mins p/half hour, which won't make a difference anyway. Currently I haven't even been running it at all, and during the summer my ceiling fans do most of the work. They do not control the temperature settings, only the cycling.
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
I'm not normally a tin foil hat wearer, but I don't want my power company even slightly touching my AC in the summer in Texas. What if they manage to eff it up? I don't know know about CPS, but TXU is 100% pure suck.
- Michelle Martinez
Ugh Michelle, I know. I switched from Reliant to TXU for a few months before I left Houston, and they were cheaper but SO much worse. I'm really not worried about it. I can still set the thing to 65 degrees if I want and they can't control it, only turn it off twice during times when I'm not normally in the home in the first place. It needs to be noted that this is only during "Peak" conditions and may not even happen every day during those months.
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
Oh, I see. I am normally home all day and turning the AC off for even 10 minutes in this piece of crap duplex would be a nightmare.
- Michelle Martinez
I understand completely. I've got ceiling fans in every room, plus plenty of trees to provide shade for the house so it doesn't get very hot here anyway. I'm also fairly warm-natured anyway (you saw how I shivered even in 65 degree weather) so typically my A/C doesn't dip below 75 in the first place, usually closer to 78-80.
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
I don't mess with another man's thermostat, thankyouverymuch. :D
- Steven Perez
Oh, and make sure that thing is secured.
- Steven Perez
They offer this in California, but the electric company (PG&E) actually CONTROLS your thermostat during times of heavy electrical use when there's strain on the grid. Because it's apparently our fault that California and the energy companies are too f'ing lame to expand the infrastructure along with the massive amounts of housing they keep allowing to accumulate here...
- tinypants - Hagitha of FF
Yea, but can it post temperature updates to FriendFeed?
- Mark Krynsky
There was a really sick recurring meme on Fark, where at least once a day someone would post "Weird Al's Parents have died", for like 8 years after they died.

Wasn't he in "Hot Stuff" I think that was the first movie I ever saw with nudity (no not his...)

I'm neutral on WinZIP but I do wish there was a one-click or shortcut key to zip a folder. I hate right-clicking and menu dancing to zip!
- Zulema ◕ ◡ ◕
I haven't installed WinZIP or just about an ZIP program on a PC since XP included it in the OS. Well, that's not true. I've run across a few ZIPs using a compression algorithm that the OS didn't understand but then it's 7ZIP since it's free.
- Kevin Kuphal
I use 7-zip (at 7zip.org) - works with most archive formats, and it's freeware!

- Anthony Citrano
From the article: "So, all of you: call your legions to arms. Tell them a national emergency requires that they spend an hour a day seriously evaluating the American way of life, thinking critically about where we stand as a nation, how we got here, and how they might help in the rebuilding. This is not politics; this is hardcore societal bodywork."
- Ontario Emperor
I've been talking to people at Fast Company and Inc here in NYC today. There are two problems. 1. The very real credit crunch. The Congress can get us out of that one, maybe. 2. Our fear. We're now all hoarding and preparing for the worst. I know I'm not spending money on projects that I was planning on doing (like I need to fix a shower). That too will cause harm to our economy and is something we can do something about, but, tell me how to get me over my fears and my hoarding impulse?
- Robert Scoble
Thanks Anthony, very well said. Glad this came around again.
- jcunwired
@Robert: Glad to see you're on a more even keel today. Credit will tighten but not stop. Things will get worse before they get better. I'd have to refer you to a therapist for the fear issue. I have faith that we're strong enough to get through it. The Bay Area survived the web 1.0 dot com crash. It wasn't easy (I was out of work for 11 months and had to go back to my old career for half pay) but ... we make due, we soldier on, we rebuild. Corny, I know. [edit] And a dose of lolcats ;)
- AJ Kohn
AJ: oh, we'll get through it. We made it through the depression and the civil war (where we killed six million of each other). We'll make it through whatever comes next. I might have to bring my family over and sleep on your couch, though. Hope you won't mind. :-)
- Robert Scoble
That's a small part of the current problem, Robert, for sure. But my goal with this piece is to move beyond this singular symptom (the financial crisis) and address the root of the disease.
- Anthony Citrano
First Twitter, then the economy. Damn you, Robert. ;-)
- Chris Baskind
The root of the problem is that we are human.

@Robert: Sure, come by! Not that I have much in my apartment and the 12 year old IKEA couch isn't too comfy.
- AJ Kohn
@Anthony: Well written BTW. I feel like this is an opportunity to change the way Americans have been living - to stop living beyond our means and start living sensibly. And perhaps this creates an atmosphere where we speak up - loudly and boldly - when we see something going off the tracks instead of sitting back.
- AJ Kohn
@AJ - thank you. That is exactly what I am hoping for.
- Anthony Citrano
@Gregory I had a feeling you might like this post. :)

Robert, you get over your hoarding impulse by spending on things that lower your expenses over time. There is no shortage of those: Fresher produce (ie. locally grown), energy-efficient appliances, more durable clothing, etc. For your specific example (a shower), look into water-efficient shower heads.
- Michael R. Bernstein
Those are all optional expenses. Won't be happening anytime soon, sorry.

Oil should start its well awaited decline towards $50 range

Keep dancing around it guys; but, do know that we're dancing at the edge of a cliff.

Anthony: I thought your ideas are good, but we're not ready for that yet. It's amazing to me that so many on Twitter and here (er, around the world) are just encouraging the total burning of our economy. So, I figure, we need to go through a year of burning. Burn, baby, burn. Hoard, baby, hoard. Then we can have a real conversation about what to do now and how to build a new economy on top of the ruins. In the meantime, hope your house doesn't get burned down in this mess that's coming.
- Robert Scoble
Yeah, I was talking to my mechanic yesterday ... he still feels that a bailout is for "someone else." I mean, yeah, we're *all* feeling the effects of high gas prices, but the effects of the "credit crisis" ... You'll forgive me if I say that "main street" hasn't felt that yet. So (to hack up yet another political quote) main street's quite ready to say "thanks, but no thanks" to that bailout for noone ... and let the markets spin for awhile.
- Joel Bennett
@Gregory: Consumer revolving debt will top 1 TRILLION by the end of the year. I simply don't think anyone truly understands the effect of offering so many so much credit.
- AJ Kohn
Nice to see people finally talking about the substance. I wrote an in depth piece today on the natural selection of a market recession. We can attenuate some of the acute pain, but we can stop the cycle of disruption. We ensured the intensity of the coming chaos by trying to forestall it. Now the deadwood has to burn. There is a silver lining. http://www.chriskenton.com

Chris - thanks. I am not terribly optimistic that my rallying cry will do much - but here's hoping.
- Anthony Citrano
Robert, food and clothing aren't 'optional'. Spending more for fresher food makes you healthier and increases your productivity, and reduces your future medical expenses. Spending more on durable clothing saves money on buying replacements.
- Michael R. Bernstein
Catharsis has its own merits. :) People will listen when they're affected. Compared to the conversation I saw three weeks ago even after the initial crisis started, there's now a chorus. Keep up the cries.

The initial crisis started well over 25 years ago, but I take your point. When and if they do listen, it may be too late.
- Anthony Citrano
Anthony - funny picture!! hilarious!! ha, ha!!
- Susan Beebe
The underlying issue isn't hilarious, though, is it? I wonder what percentage of FFers are bothering to actually read the piece... the silence is deafening.

Thanks Anthony, this is a strong call to arms to invest our time in campaigns, issues and nonprofits. Have any favorites that you personally choose to invest your time in?

I think a point that can be difficult to grasp is that there are other measures of a society's health beyond personal wealth. Finances are easy to express in nice simple integers, but the degree to which individual people will be able to weather the inevitable changes of our times has to do with a great many more dimensions than those determined by money alone.

I was raised by teen parents who were by definition poor. However, my mother is a librarian, and I was taught that knowledge is power. She was right. I'm doing very well financially now, in spite of having dropped out of college as a freshman for financial reasons.
- Jason Wehmhoener
@Robert - I missed your earlier suggestion that "we're not ready" to stand up and take personal responsibility for our future. That may be true, but if it is, it's heartbreaking - and we deserve what we get.
