After the claim that http://friendfeed.com/rahshee... wouldn't start a meme, I had to at least give it a try. This is mildly better to look at than the original that the lickers came from (you know which image I'm talking about, I refuse to link to it).
I knew the "Remove It Permanently" Firefox addon would come in handy.

Only about 1040 more comments to go until we overtake the original!

Bonnie, who has the talent? I hope you're not referring to me, this is the shittiest photoshopping (well, GIMPing), I've ever done. That being said, I spent way too much time on it when I did it.
- Andy Bakun
Sean, if only I knew. This was delivered directly to me fresh and hot.

Wow, whatever you do, don't google "Asian guys at beach licking" if you want to find the Flickr account for this. No, seriously. Just...don't. o.O

Sir, randomly linking to your FriendFeed from one of my posts is oh wait you'll never see this because you're blocked for spamming. Thanks anyway, kaghazrangy.

Akiva, wasn't that pic taken at your last BBQ?

Paul, I surely do wish I had a beach in my back yard!
- Akiva Moskovitz
Sparky, I'm going to have this blown up to poster-size and attaching it to the ceiling above our bed. That'll cause some infections!

I still want to know the motivation here. is this a gay marriage argument? or are we already pushing group social contracts on friendfeed?
- Noah David Simon
oh man this one keeps popping up on ma friendfeed,....must spread virus nao
- Chris Hofmann
I'm surprised no one's noticed old boy's red-framed glasses.
- Akiva Moskovitz
oh right... the glasses are so important when three asian men are licking his nipples and all the comments are by people who think gay marriage has something to do with equality... when it has everything to do with taking protections away from children. the red glass glasses.... um yeah. chicken and Oklahoma with milk
- Noah David Simon
Mark, you have uncovered the dark underbelly of humanity except in this case it isn't dark but is rather a pasty hue somewhere in the vicinity of undercooked flan.

As much as I am loathe to bump this post, I have to do it to say, You, sir, are a master. Well played, sir. Well played. This is why I take every opportunity to say, in my next life, I want to be Akiva. I've already called it! Don't anybody go getting any more ideas.

I, for one, refuse to "bump" posts...it's very unseemly...

For the life of me, I'll never understand the emotion people have around this picture for or against. There's no nudity at all, not even implied nudity. Less dude nudity than a beer commercial or cigarette ad, yet there are people who really really really hate this picture.

The bumping algorithm includes things like novel people posting to it, in addition to thread age, and rapidity of comments. If the same 3 people are talking in a thread, it quits bumping because it's obviously a closed tea party.

On Fark, there was this one thread, that just kept growing and growing. On Fark, it was a single page per thread. And you could post images and gif inline. Well the thread wouldn't die, people just kept posting. I forget which one it was. Anyway, it got so monsterous, that few people going to read/post to it per day (which was only a handfull) accounted for 1/3 of the server load of the site. They eventually had to cull that thread.

Idea for a useful webapp: A tool for doing web page mockups that's better than Photoshop because things actually look right (because it's rendered by the browser). It doesn't need to generate good html, so absolute positioning, etc is ok.
Totally brilliant idea. I write my own bad html mockups in a text editor or whatever IDE I'm playing with at the time, but a tool to ease this process would mean I could get on to abandoning the half-finished project much sooner than usual. :-)
- Slippy "Threadsbane" Lane
Please god no, don't create another "doesn't need to generate good html" code generator. srsly
- Jason Wehmhoener
Well, as for the mockups, there is really great Firefox extension called Pencil. You should try it.
- Mladen Srdić
using Cappuccino, an open source framework that makes it easy to build desktop-caliber applications that run in a web browser?
- huixing
Paul, have you checked out Axure http://www.axure.com/? I've typically used Visio or resorted to whiteboards/paper as they are easier to edit.
- Jauder Ho
Jason, I would be fine with it not generating html at all. As for Balsamiq and some of the others, the idea is actually that it would look more like the final product instead of less. Photoshop gets fonts wrong and stuff because it isn't a web browser, and yet people still keep using it, so it seems that it must have some advantage over the other tools.
- Paul Buchheit
Photoshop has two major advantages, multiple uses and precision. Photoshop can be used for more than just web mockups. One person can achieve multiple goals with Photoshop while a mockup tool just makes mockups. The second advantage is the mockups look great in presentations because the author has complete control. Photoshop mockups aren't real they're hyper-real.
- Kevin D. White
Depends whether your goal is to sketch and idea or create a final design. For the latter, you really do want it to be pixel perfect. For the former, you want a "wireframe" or whatever the cool kids call it these days.
- ⓞnor
What ⓞnor said. For "wireframes" a whiteboard is fine, but eventually you want pixel-perfect designs.
- Paul Buchheit
Paul have you tried Fireworks, that's what our designers use.
- Michael
http://www.balsamiq.com I got this link from Cooper U boards a while back, and a lot of my co-workers have found it very useful. While it's not pixel perfect, it allows for really quick mock ups with the idea that the design of the end product will be done by actual designers.
- Sam Ee
I've been looking for something like this for years. Balsamiq is definitely a good start, but I feel like there's not quite enough depth yet. Has anyone had luck with stencils like the ones found at http://graffletopia.com/ (for Omni Graffle)?
- Sutee Dee
pixel perfect? The web isn't print. Complete control over the rendering environment is an illusion. Don't submit to it!
- Andy Bakun
Vi is pretty good. You just write some text and point a browser at it.
- Cliff Gerrish
Try wireframing and prototyping apps - I am not sure if output is rendered at browser level though. Protoshare.com, jumpchart.com, productplanner.com

"When are people going to learn that in this day and age, you cannot upload photos to your Facebook page if you don't want them to get out? What we have here is a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader in blackface. Awkward."
- .LAG liked that
from Bookmarklet
Hahahaha what is she 20? AND a cheerleader? Yeah "dressing up" as Lil' Wayne was a mistake but, she's not in charge of anything important, she wasn't hired by Dallas to go out there and shake her "intellect" and after this is all over I'd be willing to bet its a mistake she wont repeat.

Being black is not a Halloween costume.
- EricaJoy
from IM
I know that, and I didn't say it was... I want to get worked up (and normally I would over something like this) but this for me is the mother of all consider the source moments.
- J. Abdul-Qahhar
Does the source make more ok for you? It doesn't for me. I don't give passes for this sort of shit. Also? Note the other painted faces at that party made up to look hispanic. Also not ok.
- EricaJoy
from IM
Erica... yeah, I'm glad you noticed the also-awkward mariachi costumes too.
- .LAG liked that
probably not malice but the kind of poor judgement that comes from youth and inexperience on display here. And the reason that I don't take it too seriously is that I doubt people are looking to her to shape policy or to inform their ideas and opinions.
- J. Abdul-Qahhar
Cannot write off poor judgement in cases like these. It seems to be accepted amongst her circle of friends that you can paint your skin darker for a "costume." You can't just say "oops, they're young, it'll pass" about racial insensitivity like this. It is 100% unacceptable and 100% intolerable. It needs to be understood that this is not ok. Ever. I don't care if its random kid in the street who can't influence anybody to super model in a magazine. Blackface is NEVER EVER ok. I can't say it enough.
- EricaJoy
from IM
So what do you think we should do about it?
- J. Abdul-Qahhar
If I had the opportunity, I'd sit down with her and her friends and explain exactly how wrong this is. Then I'd ask her to spread that message. Anytime I see someone in blackface, I will do the same. On a broader level, there needs to be more of an outcry from people against this sort of behavior so that in the future, nobody ever thinks "hmmm, painting myself black for a costume would be cool."
- EricaJoy
from IM
@Ash... one thing we can do is call it out everytime we see it, condemn it, and refuse to write it off as "youthful inexperience." if there's a constructive way to let this individual know that it's not right, that would probably be preferable to her getting fired.
- .LAG liked that
you're probably right, it just doesn't seem vitriolic to me.
- J. Abdul-Qahhar
Most people who do and say racially insensitive things don't intend malice or vitriol. That doesn't make it any less wrong. If we stand idly by and say nothing because they don't intend malice, how will they ever know their actions are offensive?
- EricaJoy
from IM
I am not saying its isn't offensive, and I wasn't saying that she (and her friends) should get a pass. What I was saying is, before we start ripping in to a twenty old for doing something we can put in to context but that she (apparently) couldn't...
- J. Abdul-Qahhar
So what would YOU prefer to happen?
- EricaJoy
from IM
Between this and the Indian Princesses I've seen this holiday, I pretty much hate Halloween.
- Liz
Honestly? I don't know... In my experience its really difficult to explain to people why this is so hurtful. I mean where would you even start with something like this? Do I think nothing should be done? No. But its apparent from the pictures that theres no one around to put this into perspective for her/them. Is there any one here that thinks this should be a career ending mistake?
- J. Abdul-Qahhar
The career question is debatable. A Dallas Cowboys cheerleader in Texas is like the prom queen and miss america all rolled into one. Little girls look up to her. She'd be suspended for a while if I were her coach.
- EricaJoy
from IM
but would benching her really get to the heart of the matter? Or is that just a way to kick her in the pocket book for some thing we disapprove of, for something that we look at and think "She should have known better"
- J. Abdul-Qahhar
Its what would happen to an NFL player, why should an NFL cheerleader be treated any differently? Benching her wouldn't be punishment for her, it would be to show the people who look up to her (read: kids) that the behavior she displayed is not tolerated. Cheerleaders have other jobs, fwiw, so her pockets wouldn't be hurt too much.
- EricaJoy
from IM
The thing about the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders is that they are an important marketing piece of one of the world's greatest sports brands. They travel all over the world representing that silver star, so they are presented as role models...it's a dumb move for someone with such a public job. it deserves some kind of public acknowledgement and correction, but, again, I don't want someone to lose their job, just for being an idiot.
- .LAG liked that
I mean is the crux of it that we want to fix this? Or teach her/them why this is wrong, or are just holding her out as an example of whats still wrong in America?
- J. Abdul-Qahhar
...hold her out as an example...but correct it, in some constructive way would be my preference. the harsher solutions just breed resentment, compound the problem...
- .LAG liked that
I'm not advocating she lose her job but she needs to be held accountable for her actions in some public manner.
- EricaJoy
from IM
Personally, I'd settle for a serious beatdown. Maybe I'm just tired, but i think a good ass-whoopin' is what she needs. I'll sign up to do it. I'm so sick and tired of these people and the fact that claim ignorance so often. I call bullshit.
- Anika
Anika... and no one would have known about this incident, if not for the magic that is: Facebook.

They may be unteachable but the children and other impressionables watching this go on may not be.

@EricaJoy I think you're right, and for what its worth I got a lot out of this.

Why post this if not to make people angry, and why get angry if you're not going to do any thing about it?
- J. Abdul-Qahhar
First of all, those pics make me wanna throw up. But what about the real black people at the party, especially the women? They don't seem to have an issue with it. Excuse me, but I guess I'm part of the "new generation" that refuses to live in the past and perpetuate history into eternity and which everyone who was born before 1980 just "doesn't get". She's clearly a Weezy fan and everybody's cool with it. Dis ain't news.

J ...i didn't post this to make anyone angry. The note here is to remind myself there's still a lot a work to do in the area of race relations in America. Period. Now, if there are people who get angry, it is incumbent on THEM to do something about it. For me, I'm duly noting that problems still exist in this area, and I hope we'll all contribute to solutions.
