I just don't get all this stupidity around smoking. Who are these 'experts' that decided this exists and is harmful? Point us to some serious peer reviewed research please - Sofia Gkiousou
Can everyone just lay off of us smokers? is it not good enough that we get shoved outside in all weather from extreme cold to extreme heat? If we're going to have this much studying about smoking and the bad effects it has on everyone, just make it illegal already. - slayerboy
I don't smoke but I'm tired of smoking being elminated everywhere and frowned upon. People know its bad for them, just like eating bad food or drinking too much is. The idea that you can't smoke in a bar or restaurant in entire states is just ludicrous. Let people that would like to run a smoking establishment do so. We need a dose of common sense on this issue, badly. As for the health concerns, real science please. Not speculation. - Randy Holloway

Agreed. But the boundaries of where to allow smoking are tough. Needs to be part of a bigger discussion. - Barry Biddlecomb

No, I can't lay off smoking. The smoke comes through the vents in my car, the exhaust vent in my bathroom, my bedroom window... If you could really keep the smoke to yourself I might be okay with it, but smoke travels. - Richard Klein

Richard well whoever feels that way should be lobbying for an outright ban. This witchhunt is getting very old. On the one hand the taxes are gathered and on the other hand smokers are suddenly the devil. - Sofia Gkiousou
@Sofia - not only do smokers hurt themselves and others around them with their habits, they end up costing society a ton of cash when they (inevitably) end up with cancer, etc. - Dave Hodson
I used to smoke, but I quit some years ago. I don't preach to anyone about it. You know the risks, you play the game if you want to. I MUCH prefer smoke free bars/restaurants these days; it's nice not to smell like a dirty ashtray when I get back home. However, I am totally against Government bans, each establishment should be able to make their own choice, and smokers and non smokers can vote with their feet accordingly. We need Government OUT of our lives not more IN it. - Ian May
What would the tax liability be if smoking were banned? How many hundreds of millions of tax dollars? - Mark VandenBerg
Once the money from smokers is not profitable "they" are going to go after alcohol because of the same reasons; public safety, money that it's costing states to care for people with health issues, etc. Here's the rub. Fat people are next. Think about it...@Dave's comments hold true for those folks too. - West O'Todd
You people do realize this is a shameless pimp by Jason to drive traffic to Mahalo. Whatsa matta Jason, Mahalo traffic drying up? - Mark VandenBerg
This may be a little hysteric, I think. But anyway, it stinks, so I keep away from that "smell" anyway...yuck. - Ryo
Mark - have nothing for or against Jason but there's nothing wrong with pointing people to something that arouses interest and creates discussions as this thing clearly did. - Sofia Gkiousou
arrghhh, I am not and never was a smoker but I've had it with the anti-smoking hysteria of recent years. This 'third-hand' smoke is the latest and most funny (in a sad way) anti-smoking ploy. The only real issue with smoking is worker health, everything else is childish and immature. - Kostantinos Koukopoulos
Interesting, but I am willing to bet if those of you that have children take a good look around the room, you'll find some thing that presents a more intimidate danger. Sharp objects, cups filled with hot coffee, older siblings... I mean third hand smoke (if it exists) is probably dangerous but only in an "asteroid is going to strike the earth" kind of way. - J. Abdul-Qahhar
excellent comment J. Abdul-Qahhar... this is the kind of stuff som people find by living in a lab ;) - Mariano Amartino
That's unfortunate: "Sadly, the acquisition also meant a number of lay-offs at 1UP, with the ‘1Up Yours,’ ‘1Up FM’ and ‘1Up Show’ podcasts being terminated.
In addition, Ziff-Davis has made official the closure of gaming magazine Electronic Gaming Monthly. Its January issue will be its last after nearly 20 years of publication. " - fshamsi
