Huh-uh - I guess someone is going to appear on Google Street View. :)
- Olivia Lovag
What is the normal turn around time from the car taking pictures to appearance in street view?
- Brian Sullivan
Other pictures I have seen of Google transport carrying out shots for Google Maps Street View have had the Google logo on the vehicle... I have never seen any of them in the UK yet. Heh
- Geoff Jackson
My brother saw one in Manchester, probably a year ago. I suspect that Google are taking a more incognito approach these days after all the objections from the general public: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1...
- James Myatt
This is clearly not my cat. If this was my cat he's have one arm shoved down into the printer trying to tear up all the internal whirling bits with his bare claws.
- Soup
Too Funny! Reminds me of the San Mateo Cat Shelter where one of the cats loves to sleep on top of the laster printer where the paper comes out...
- Greg Lato
1600+ to beat the FFundercats live chat thread. I think with this real time now on all threads we're going to see some truly epic comment numbers.
- Simon Wicks
Ivan, no the picture speaks for itself. ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Petr, I have no idea what you mean, but thank you. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
@Kol .. :] that, partially, might have been the purpose.... I don't know it exactly either. :] .. was I reflecting on a cat under the fax, and that it is hard to fax that way ... /?:] ... "underfaxing at its worst" ..
- Petr Buben
there ya have me ! :] .... see, to be honest with you, i saw this pic couple days ago, but i let it go, without posting it ..... what does that make me? :]
- Petr Buben
even a flat cat... faxes just can't handle the hair. You'd have to shave the cat first, else the hair will burn and stick to the drum... a mess! (I am extrapolating from transparencies, mind, i don't have access to a cat to test)
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
Hehe, Joelle. This is now tied for the 'likes' top stop. One more then, hehe. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Hehe, Greg. Blimey! Erm, is that not far from 500 likes now? ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Bloody marvelous, Kol. Wish I could like it again... too cute (and help u to 500 likes).
- Roberto Bonini
I couldn't believe it when I logged on from the morning over posting it and saw it was at something 200 likes! You all have a strange fetish with cats and fax machines, hehe. ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Am I the only one who saw this and their first thought was - My goodness did someone break that cats neck? It still freaks me out a little
- Steve C
Steve, it does look a little out of place, but cats are pretty bendy. ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
They fax much better if you flatten them first. What?
- Kevin Pedraja
So we can put this post to rest now. :-) 505 likes final count, wow! :-D Good night all!
- Kol Tregaskes
My like is the last one so far :) - 509 afaik
- getalifejerk
did 3 people really un-like this? now at 506. wtf (edit: uh, oh, yeah, me and 2 + 506 others makes 509. dammit, jim, i'm an artist, not a mathematician)
- ɐ ɯıʞ sıɹɥɔ
One of the best funny cat pictures I've seen! :-)
- John Collis
Kristian, it appears to be. Hehe, John.
- Kol Tregaskes
- Maryaminaa
It's really only social convention which regards it as inappropriate, same with Xeroxing it, like one does with their b__tocks. Wait are we still talking about cats cats here or...
- sofarsoShawn
OMGosh 700+ likes now!! LOL. Thank you all 702 of you. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Yes, Facebook, thank you so much for your *amazing* suggested friend feature. A grandmother type with a crazy sweatshirt and another with her pants pulled down around her ankles. I'm so impressed with your uncanny ability to find just my type of new friend.
Yes, the "suggested by" gives it away. It's not the "you might also know…" automated recommendation. It says more about your friends than it does about Facebook.
- Mistletoe Glen
That was my understanding too. These are friends your friends suggest. Interesting circles you run in; I can't imagine a real person putting that rear shot as a profile pic on fb.
- Kenley Neufeld
from iPhone
sometimes I acidently end up accepting these as they feel just like actual friend requests. That bottom new friend might take some explaining to my wife. Facebook ought to consider letting users turn this feature off if they'd like. I know I'd turn it off.
- Thomas Hawk
That's hilarious. I always get recommended people I already know that are new to FB
- Francine Hardaway
The really question is did you friend either?
- RAPatton
haha, no, neither. I was tempted to friend the grandmotherly type since we've got 12 mutual friends but I have no idea in blazes who she is.
- Thomas Hawk
I'm more impressed with the 305 messages in your inbox.
- Kevin Pedraja
I'm so terrible with my email/flickrmail/facebook mail. I try and try and just can't keep up with it all.
- Thomas Hawk
Im less likely to subscribe to either .. unless I know them ,,,
- johnpiercy
I have 587 unread messages in my Facebook inbox. I actually read all them through e-mail, and there's no good way to mark all as read. Facebook sucks for e-mail-like communication (as does Twitter).
- Jesse Stay
At least facebook should not show the same suggested friends again and again once we hit X on it but it does show them repeatedly. Very annoying :(
- Muhammad Ahmed
4647 is alot Geoff. I hate all forms of email myself actually. It feel burdensome feeling that you have to respond to someone or risk offending them. I much prefer interacting with people directly in forums like FriendFeed or DMU on Flickr in public than one on one. Email should be reserved for things that really do need to be kept private.
- Thomas Hawk
Thomas: Yeah my Facebook is pretty hectic and I although I do read my messages on there, I can not keep up with them at the rate they come in. I rarely use email at all these days though unless it is to send files to someone. I just hope one day i will not have to find an old message on Facebook, haha
- Geoff Jackson
I am so with you. It's annoying. I spend the most time on Facebook x-ing out people I've never heard of that might be my friends. It gets better. Yesterday I got a notification - where my high priority Scrabble and Lexulous pings turn up - of some guy, never heard of him either, that had just joined FB and did I want to suggest friends. WTF?
- Cathleen Rittereiser
it seems to periodically (weekly?) refresh the suggested friends....
- Jason A. Samfield
I think a good practice is to consider unfollowing EVERYONE each year, then just add folks that are relevant. Why? people change, you may not wanted to have followed them, or you may want to reduce the noise. What do you think?
We clean our out contact lists in address books from time to time. Why not online.
- Kate Foy
How did you do this Holden? I'm following a few thousand folks
- Jeremiah Owyang
Jeremiah, and you can do this with SocialToo - it's $25, one-time payment, you never pay again. We unfollow everyone for you, pretty quick, too.
- Jesse Stay
That and you get all our other services, and we're sustainable unlike any of the other services out there doing it.
- Jesse Stay
(BTW, I added this feature when you recommended we add it when you were out at Omniture Summit) :-)
- Jesse Stay
Oh yeah Jesse. we xchanged emails about that. Hmm i may need it. Thinking it over
- Jeremiah Owyang
what might help is to be able to flag some followers as perms
- Allen Stern
Jeremiah let me know if you're ready to do it and I'll be sure you get top service and priority.
- Jesse Stay
Allen, we do that too - add them to your Unfollow whitelist and we'll never, ever unfollow them.
- Jesse Stay
I guess we just call it your "whitelist" - it's under your unfollowing preferences though.
- Jesse Stay
Ideas like this that make me wonder if you really are a social media expert. How can you have a 2 way conversation with your audience, if you try and maintain a wall of exclusivity? It's good that you keep the people that matter to you close, but it wouldn't hurt to get a little dirty by getting to know a few more of your fans.
- Davis Freeberg
Davis, what's funny is that I see people on your side, and on the other side of the auto-follow debate all criticizing the other for calling themselves Social Media Experts. I don't think there is any right or wrong way to do it.
- Jesse Stay
I'm not a social media expert and I don't mean to be harsh, but this comment sounds very elitist from someone who has benefited so much from the kindness of others. A better way he could have phrased it would have been to say hello readers, I want to make sure that you're getting the most out of your lifeblogging experiences, so once a year do a gut check and unfollow me if you want. No hard feelings I promise..
- Davis Freeberg
Perhaps one should bemore selective of whom one subscribes initially?
- MVB (Grinch of FF)
from iPod
I'm downsizing my follows. The follow everyone who follows you concept has done more harm with noise than good besides to get your numbers higher.
- manielse (Mark Nielsen)
First, there are free tools to unfollow, no need to pay. See the category for Follower Management on our site http://EverythingTwitter.com I don't mass unfollow, I use some of the other tools to look first for ones that haven't posted in a while. That is quick cleanup.
- Chris Miller
It's certainly a stunt people have pulled before, using SocialToo and other tools. If that is how you want to use Twitter, Twitter is, in the end, and a la carte service geared to the individual. I personally prefer a richer, more diverse, stream, myself. #stilllongsforall@sback I think it is overthinking your social media use in your particular case at your particular experience level,...
- Leslie Poston
Holden: It is very quick in a lot of the tools. Select all or unselect all. I am just saying if you are only looking to do this step, there are fre ones out there that work well. We review them all to our best before listing them
- Chris Miller
Chris, the problem with those other tools is that they aren't sustainable. The Twitter API only allows a certain number of requests per IP, per hour, so as they get enough traffic, boom, now they don't work any more. Use them at will, sure, but keep in mind the minute any of them gets any attention they're going to go down due to the Twitter API limits. To keep one running you have to...
- Jesse Stay
Holden, like your 'new' avatar. It looks new to me.
- Myrna
Jesse, I love SocialToo, don't get me wrong. But a lot of people don't follow that many (isn't the average small) that they would break the API limit that fast no? Just throwing out to search before paying to get what they need.
- Chris Miller
Chris, I think you'd be surprised. It's why we had to start charging for our features.
- Jesse Stay
I like the idea of changing who you follow but unfollowing everyone is going to far. I think trying to follow too few ppl is seen as a status symbol, but limits interaction w/ newbies, ppl who spark new interests, perspectives you otherwise ignore - defeats the purpose of using social media to discover new relationships and collaboration. But JUST TRY unfollowing everyone, and see how much you depend on certain ppl to pipe up when you need it most, etc....
- Liza
I think it's a good strategy. Maybe there are other good strategies, but this definitely is a good one. I think our minds work so strange that the one's answer to the question to "will I unfollow him?" when following not always be yes, when the answer to "will I follow him" while not following would be no. It's harder to deliberately unfollow someone then not starting to follow someone you don't follow (but might remember having followed in the past). Rigorously unfollowing all helps deal with this bias.
- Meryn Stol
like in the financial markets, do it each quarter :) Things change quickly in "social space"
- Vincent van Wylick
Davis. Didn't mean to sound like a jerk, so sorry if I did. My information habits and diet have changed, so I need to change my inputs.
- Jeremiah Owyang
I even started with a new username, without any follower, and completely new discussions :)
- Steph (sh_skew)
from iPod
I'm not sure I'd go so far as to unfollow everyone, but I think your basic idea is a good one, Jeremiah. My approach is more like managing an investment portfolio, periodically reviewing individual assets and their return, remixing to maximize overall benefit.
- Larry Hawes
Do you have to follow someone on Twitter AND Friendfeed? Is there some sort of twitterquette about that?
- Gregg Le Blanc
"When Apple announced the new 3.0 version of its iPhone operating system last week, the company focused on a number of major addition to the phone's bag of tricks: cut, copy, and paste; push notifications; new features for Safari; MMS; the ability to use the keyboard in landscape mode in Apple's apps like Mail, Notes, and Messages; as well as the new Spotlight search. All of these are important updates, but Apple also made a number of smaller updates to the firmware that it didn't stress at WWDC, including better scrubbing controls in the iPod app, new features for playing back podcasts, the ability to sign in to YouTube to sync bookmarks and easily find and play your own videos."
- Jim Connolly
from Bookmarklet
if i go to the username link while im signed into my account then it doesnt give me an option to change the group URL
- Jason Pollock
I think its best to choose something professional such as your name instead of something stupid, shame had to be less more then 5 characters otherwise I would of chosen my first name!
- Liam Daly
hey I got full name with a dot in the middle and it works without it as well, neat. :-)
- Project Glow Guy
Facebook is just telling me that I picked my URL because I did for my personal page but havent for my group
- Jason Pollock
shelisrael and 1938media were both available a few minutes ago
- Ken Sheppardson
Can you get two usernames or is it one and done???
- Mike
i still cant figure out how to now change my group URL link.. i have over 1000 members in there but the facebook.com/username link tells me i already changed my URL, which i did for my page but not my group page.... any thoughts anyone?
- Jason Pollock
Ben: You are right, it looks like Facebook gives you both FirstName.LastName and FirstNameLastName.
- Rolf Schewe
Jason: when you choose a FirstName.LastName or without a dot Facebook reserve the other for you.
- Vinko
I like that they prevented brand new accounts from grabbing names. Good decision FB.
- KyleHase
Firstinitial.Lastname also resolves to FirstinitialLastname ...EDIT: in fact, it seems that you can insert arbitrary and multiple periods anywhere and it will resolve to your periodless name, much like a GMail address.
- LogEx
1601californiaave is still available
- Robert Scoble
OMG Allen! facebook is are losers! fuckers!
- Orli Yakuel
seriously u guys r so funny lmao, usernames r so fun to play around with and I took the advantage 2 input mine in the blank space: http://www.facebook.com/pkkha: its a personal one.
- polou/indigo_bow
Jason--after you select your username, you'll see the option to select a name for you pages.
- Kathy Fitch
Michael: I am just seeing if some fun names are available.
- Robert Scoble
Wonder if this tread will be longer than the Laporte/Arrington one.
- KyleHase
Why did they suggest "."s if it was going to ignore them? Wouldn't it have made more sense not to allow "."s?
- Paul Lancaster
seriously--it's one environment that gets progressively less appealing as it develops.
- Kathy Fitch
Stephen: Facebook PR has saved that for me, but it'll take a while because I missed the deadline. I wanted to see if I could get "Robert."
- Robert Scoble
ooohhhh--love the book snowcrash. The robot doggie makes me cry every time.
- Kathy Fitch
facebook.com/asdfasdf redirected me back to home!
- Project Glow Guy
Robert - how are you checking this since you already secured your name? you must have a fake account for this!! LOL
- Susan Beebe
Yes, going to /whatever is not a good way of testing. If someone has that URL but uses privacy settings it'll just go to your home.
- KyleHase
Kathy: "sighing" is still available.
- Robert Scoble
Yes, I fell for Facebook's massive publicity stunt and got sucked into watching the timer count down to zero so I could get /freddavis... same as I have here on FriendFeed, Twitter (if I ever get into my account again, sheesh!), Flickr, etc. ...and beat out the over 2,000 other Fred Davis's in the US... (sorry Redskins fans)...
- Fred Davis
What's more valuable on a social media site than your OWN name when all you are doing is selling yourself?? Some silly name suggestions up there. Even for nerds...
- Dean Kakridas
top100 is not available. top1000 is.
- Robert Scoble
actually, my user names are worth more to me than my real name, Dean.
- Kathy Fitch
So is Facebook doing the "verified names" like Twitter?
- Jorge Escobar
I should have gotten "sidneycrosby" or "kobebryant" just to get a zillion hits over the next few days.
- Kevin Mohr
I agree, kathy. I went right for dthree, not my real name
- dthree
StephenPickering wasn't hard but there is a guy in Australia who's going to be pissed at me
- Stephen Pickering
Matthew: I registered "Scoble" for my son at 9 p.m. So that's the answer. I already had RobertScoble saved by PR. But I probably would rather have "Scoble."
- Robert Scoble
This is something that frustrates me. How do I access my fan page from within my account? I don't see anywhere to do it. (I have 2 fans heheeheheh)
- Stephen Pickering
Thanks Kathy, would love to have you as a "fan" but I don't even know how to direct you to the page! hehehehheheheheh
- Stephen Pickering
Hmm... I get the screen "The page you requested was not found."
- Jorge Escobar
Robert: Damn i only have guessing urls to go off after securing my name.
- Project Glow Guy
could it be that the small caps twitter and not the big caps Twitter is available?
- polou/indigo_bow
toptwitterer is still available. So is topgeek. Jorge, remember that I'm using the tool where you can register them. That's the only way to really check.
- Robert Scoble
good lord, it's just facebook, the internet equivalent of the yellow pages. Just take your real name and be done with it. This is all the excitement of filling out a change of address card at the post office.
- Matthew DeVries
Beware, just because it says "Page not found", doesn't mean it is available. There is a big restricted list somewhere, and I found one (a city name).
- Paul Holmes
Paul: funny, "restricted" is still available.
- Robert Scoble
Scoble, what 's the record for # of comments on friend feed - are you going for the record? BTW - I love friend feed.
- Robert Freeze
halfmoonbay looks like it might be available
- Gary Etie
facebook.com/fail appears to be available, as well.
- Paul Holmes
Robert Freeze, I don't think record threads are created, I think they happen. Lots of people try to get one going, whereas Scoble just has the dynamics going at this point in time, and I think he'd agree.
- Gary Etie
I got my name! Go ME! I don't care if anybody likes facebook or not but I really think it's important to have your own name so no one else uses it.
- Sheryl
Sheryl: Especially when its common :-P Take that 500+ other me's on facebook.
- Project Glow Guy
Facebook will be busy looking with trademarks infringements this coming few weeks!
- polou/indigo_bow
@polou - I know, it's still kind of funny
- Paul Holmes
I tried 2 put a submission 2 my biz name, but the biz number reg was not defined clearly. We have IDs with names and since laws are different in Canada and elsewhere then US.
- polou/indigo_bow
Ben: Agreed. Mine isn't as common but I tried for my first name and it was gone. Good thing I use my full name everywhere. Continuity. :)
- Sheryl
How hard could it have been to prevent creation of trademarked names, without verification from the trademark holder? Easier than it's going to be to straighten out the mess. It's got to be part of the planned hype, with built-in controversy, and ongoing coverage.
- Gary Etie
I'm Zuckerberg, and I'm thinking, how do I force a relationship between celebrities and businesses and FB? Let the world register their trademarked names! Yea, that's the ticket!
- Gary Etie
facebook.com/scobeleizer and facebook.com/scobelizer are still available
- Paul Holmes
The following are taken: pagenotfound, 404error
- Project Glow Guy
odd those pagesnotfound and 404eror r taken wonder 4 what the reason?
- polou/indigo_bow
The notorious "dot" issue - no need to worry if you are facebook.com/PaulHolmes or facebook.com/Paul.Holmes, or facebook.com/P.a.u.l.H.o.l.m.e.s. - it all goes to the same page.
- Paul Holmes
Paul: Seems dashes work the same way. ben-cooper = ben.cooper = bencooper.
- Project Glow Guy
So, it has been established, both "."s and "-"s (dots and dashes?) are ignored at Facebook. At Gmail, ".", dots are ignored, "-", dashes are not. At both FB and Gmail, g.a.r.y.e.t.i.e = garyetie = gary.etie. but ≠ g-a-r-y-e-t-i-e, or gary-etie, for Gmail.
- Gary Etie
I just decided to continue in my 12 year old mistake and take iphigenie again.
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
It would be getting harder to register firstname.lastname by now (Unless you have a more unique name). After the main one is taken you get reverse name taken lastname.firstname then they start spilling out to using initials which multiplies the amount of people that could also use it. All variations seem to be taken for my name now.
- Project Glow Guy
ender and enderwiggin are both taken
- Jeremy Toeman
seems like all LOTR, harry potter, and star wars names are gone... guess i'll just go with my own name, though i'm in no rush, since nobody else seems to have it. :)
- Jeremy Toeman
Think I have struck gold - Apple, Mac, Iphone, Ipod is avaiable
- Asgeir
You think getting a clever name is funny now, but it's like a bad tattoo,in a few years, the fun will have worn off
- Jeremiah Owyang
I'll bet it'll be more like days, Jeremiah.
- Ken Sheppardson
MyClass.SQLCommand := "SELECT * FROM SocialMedia.FaceBook WHERE Free=true" .. uh.. or the like ;) Damn ObjectPascal & SQL GUIs!
- Thierry R. Andriamirado
oooh! gefiltefish is available... tempting
- Jeremy Toeman
I have secured my regular pseudonym zigojacko (http://facebook.com/zigojacko) although I'm looking forward to when they release usernames for Facebook pages :)
- Geoff Jackson
Wow. So I can't be online Saturday morning at midnight to score my Facebook username given that I observe the Jewish Sabbath (I'm never online then). I had a friend "volunteer" to get it for me. Only after 12 email exchanges does he tell me that he has an hourly rate and that I'd be charged 2 hour minimum. This is a "friend." I have no words.
Technically, we're not even allowed to hire goyim to do our work on Shabbat for us. But, also, you are allowed to do work if it will very negatively affect your livelihood.
- Akiva Moskovitz
but a friend (of whatever or no religion) would not normally charge someone to do what will be a straightforward task - I don't understand why he would do that.
- WorldofHiglet
What Akiva said. And you're definitely not supposed to make a "profit" on Shabbat either. He was planning on having a colleague of his (not Jewish) do it, which would put me in the clear. But to charge me for that? C'mon.
- Tamar Weinberg
+1 Louis. I would do it as well for free. I know I'll be online whenever that is, since that is not work to me
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
from PeopleBrowsr
He should've done it for free or let you know upfront that he'd be glad to do it for $. :( It's to bad he wasn't upfront about it.
- James Stratford
So is the idea that we're going to be trying to grab shit like facebook.com/MichaelJordan and facebook.com/Madonna so we can extort the real Slim Shadys?
- Matthew DeVries
Tamar, I'll write a bot for free that'll do it for you! ;) (kidding)
- Jorge Escobar
Jorge, write it for free for me. Sell it for everyone else. PROFIT!
- Tamar Weinberg
M.A. on the other hand would have done a T.C. post on how Facebook recruited his "friend" to do this, in a plot to prevent him from getting said username, or to steal T.C. pageviews.
- Richard pancakhaus Walker
What are the Yiddish and Hebrew words for asshole?
- Matthew DeVries
I'll do it for free!! what a jerk! email me - susan.beebe@gmail.com
- Susan Beebe
I'd have happily have offered to do it for free also, some friend that sounds. I am in the UK however so I guess it will be early hours of the morning when we can choose a username.
- Geoff Jackson
That said you'll be making 100's of requests to get access to that full list of followers :-)
- Jesse Stay
I would too but I'm spending my time catching up on West Wing.
- anna sauce
...why not write those apps anyway, and sell them to the folks who do? Ashton, Oprah and Jimmy Fallon would love you. <wink>
- .LAG liked that
I'd love an app like that, for what it's worth. My job is to organize and get people out there to help others, so it'd help to better know them and see what I can do to help get them out there.
- Brandon Mendelson
People with a million followers don't care who those followers are.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Jesse, I mean about the people, not their IP addresses.
- Dave Winer
"Italian PR professional and former Microsoft Italy marketer Vincenzo Cosenza sent us an interesting visualization today. Below is a map of the world, showing the most popular social networks by country. The map was built using Alexa and Google Trends for Website traffic data in June 2009 and we think it shows some interesting trends. After all, our world is becoming smaller and it's good to know what services our friends on the other side of the globe are using to connect with each other."
- Kol Tregaskes
from Bookmarklet
Great insight to social media/networking across the globe.
- Geoff Jackson
Robert -- while not a one place checklist, visit http://forums.digitalpoint.com/. I've implemented some of their recommendations thus far and I feel like it's already making a difference.
- Aanarav Sareen
I've recently heard Google changed their algorithm, plus with aggregating sites indexing for us (FriendFeed, Facebook, Twitter), there are many outlets and methods of people reaching our media -- that is, if we remember to segregate to keep various audiences interested. ie: staying away from ping.fm like services.
- Mona Nomura
I'll let other folks suggest additional outside info. There's everything from Eric Goldman who talks about legal aspects of search http://blog.ericgoldman.org/ to SEO by the Sea http://www.seobythesea.com/ which talks about patents related to SEO/SEM/search. It's a really broad field. It's almost like asking "What are some good sources for information about blogging?" :)
- Matt Cutts
What a timely question Robert :) I'm just studying up on this whole subject for my own site, and didn't really know where to start. Nice
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
"Does anyone have a good checklist?" We wrote an SEO beginner's guide at http://googlewebmastercentral.... that I proofread before it went live. You can also do searches like [wordpress seo guide] and there are several good resources in the search results.
- Matt Cutts
Mona, Yes. something like 90% of all traffic starts with a search engine, so unless you are a destination site ,you rely on search to send your traffice. There are times when RSS Subs can be more valuable, like when you are doing loyalty building, but generally NEW users are finding you through a social media or through search. More people are in search than social media..Ergo its still relevant
- Brandon Wirtz
Aanarav, I would recommend some caution regarding Digital Point. Some of the more aggressive stuff that gets pitched in corners of DP can get you in trouble.
- Matt Cutts
Matt: this went to Twitter too. I have good PR's on both friendfeed and Twitter.
- Robert Scoble
What about excellent content? Is that still important? I mean, useful material for human beings? Shouldn't that be well ranked by search engines? And of course, a usable and web standards compliant site.
- Alexis Bellido
Thanks for this list. It finally showed me that value of FriendFeed over Twitter and Facebook. Good answers. Rock on. :-)
- Martin Seibert
I just want to mark this for building43 which I just did with this comment. Oh, I wish I had invisible comments to add metadata/metatags to items like this.
- Robert Scoble
Leather: I never liked delicious. It isn't setup to have a conversation like what happened here.
- Robert Scoble
www.SEOmoz.org, www.SEObook.com , www.SEOquake.com and also www.webpagefx.com is quite useful.
- Hayk H.
As Alexis Bellido says, "a usable and web standards compliant site." I recommend http://www.w3.org for brushing up on the compliance side of things (even if it gets a bit technical). It's the standards by which the web runs, from the horses mouth, so to speak.
- David August
You may want to try #Neil_Patel & his #Quick_Sprout outfit http://www.quicksprout.com/about... See his post: "How to Optimize Your Blog for Search Engines" http://bit.ly/JeXq1 - informative & good free advice. I've been digging into this subject myself for the benefit of a product one of my companies is incubating and this chap and his firm keeps rising to the top of my list. I am also fairly certain that he will advise you for free in return for a good word to your "subjects" ;) @AAinslie
- Alexander Ainslie
This post and more importanly the timeline of the replies are in and of themselves useful as a measure of which SEO/SEOm firms are paying attention online. Not that this is an automatic measure of capability or quality, but you gotta question how good any site is that doesn't link drop on this particular post, be it a self drop or otherwise, given who the author was/is. I*'m, amazed there haven't been more. This might be tell us a thing or two about FF and the SEO community.
- Eric Ward
Just a comment regarding Digital Point, they commonly recommend greyhat/blackhat techniques, and offer lots of stupid stuff for a price. The same advice can be had for free on BlackHatWorld.com. Information wants to be free. ;)
- Lee Ingram
http://www.seobook.com with Aaron I rate highly, digital-point is probably a good place for short term success on splogs but nothing sustainable long term for a proper business.

Eric, thanks for your offerings. I think that maybe the lack of SEO people here may be down to the fact that we are all working hard implementing all these techniques for our clients. There are plenty of SEO companies who merely do the work, rather than write down what they are doing and share with the rest. http://dragonsearchmarketing.com/blog... , the shop I work at part time is running really hard right now, with 3 new hires in the last 2 months.

As to the reflection on the Ff community, perhaps that is because FF is bleeding edge and most work in the trenches of SEO is being done short of the bleeding edge, where there are more "regular" folks.

Just joined StomperNet . Not a plug as I am still new with them (1 Week) http://stomping2.com/ and would like to know how others view them. They provide very detailed info through video. Seem to have an impressive staff on board. They are a paid subscription but think it is worth it so far. Would especially like to hear what Matt Cutts has to say about them. Should I cancel my subsription or not?

Jonathan: I know some of the StomperNet folks, they are very smart.

It does feel special to be using this service and be so connected in such a varitey of topics. Just tried the similar search (after reading comments on Matt Cutts ff) and did my usual search to see how a system works. http://similar-images.googlelabs.com/images... Need to get more non naked pics going :)

Jonathan, that would be a longer conversation than the FF textbox has room for.

SEOMoz is good, Seobook is good, I would also recommend WebmasterWorld as well. Supporters area on WebmasterWorld has some of the best minds hanging out there...
