Hmm. To my eye, the one on the right looks like it is wasting space. I'd have to see them in a whole group on a smaller screen, but I prefer the official one from the example they've given here.
- Jennifer Dittrich
I see his point. I think the right one looks a bit better, but esp in a lineup of various icons, the non-circle ones will fill the circle bounding box much less than circles will, and so will look non-harmonious with them.

The current App Store icon size looks similar to the example on the right. Whether either or is better, I can't tell without seeing the icon in iOS7. I will say that if the left icon is what it will look like in iOS7, then it would be more visible (accessible, if you will). Yes, negative space can make things look better, but we're not talking about a billboard or even a magazine page....

I read an article a while ago where someone was complaining about EyeFi because it requires you to create an account on their site, even if you don't use their site for anything. I haven't used either kind, though, so I can't speak with any experience on the matter

I use the Eye-Fi card all the time. You can choose to only transfer photos that you lock(protect) from within the camera or transfer automatically.
- Rodfather
I have it set to automatically transfer only jpeg photos to my phone. You can transfer RAW and video files over too if you want. I have an app scheduled sync any new photos to box.net every night.
- Rodfather
Rod, is an account on the EyeFi website required? Cuz that seems weird. Other then that the reviews seem pretty good. My phone can't create a hotspot so I'm concerned about how it'd sync with my phone.

Probably, but I don't see how that's an issue. You can configure the settings for your registered cards from the app. Or choose to use one of their services.
- Rodfather
You don't need a hotpot. You can connect to the card itself with your phone.
- Rodfather
I still don't see what the big deal is.
- Rodfather
From the article, this is my concern: "When you access your Eye-Fi account and utilize Eye-Fi services, Eye-Fi automatically records certain information about your use, such as account activity, data displayed or clicked on, and other information including browser type, IP address, date and time of access, cookie ID, and referrer URL," the company says. "Some of this information collected, such as IP address and the contents of certain cookies, may include personal information."

It looks like both cards are capable of creating their own Wi-Fi that a phone can connect to. Sweet!

You can turn off services if you don't want to use them. I don't get why registering an account is so scary. It's like saying it sucks you have to register an account to use a FitBit.
- Rodfather
The card is basically a regular SD card without the wireless features if I don't have an account. The card should be completely open and usable whether I have an account with them or not.

The Transcend and other cards are more straight forward but it's more of a manual process. Those types of cards have a web server built in so basically any device can access the server and download photos. There are apps for those types of cards to make it easier. I like that the EyeFi card makes it easy to transfer photos quickly. When I take a pic with my camera, the EyeFi card automatically connects to the phone and starts transferring photos.

Imagine what it's like watching two-thirds of your kids graduate from high school. Of course, the kidlet finished third grade (which means moving onto "intermediate" school from elementary) at the same time.

I'm going to a Parent's Afternoon today, kids are presenting some of their work from the term. Josiah's reciting a poem. I will probably cry.
