Dear diary, my last week has gone wonderful, until Saturday night when Grace Hodson decided she wouldn't let me use her Microbiology books. I did however manage to get all the information I need to reference the books, and all the useful page numbers so I can now make a trip to the library to make a proper start on my #BS1009 Microbiology essay. I have also made an excellent #MB1031 plan for the essay today, with a coloured in picture!! The rest of my week was fairly mundane, just passing by, but I am glad to say I'm not behind on any work anymore, and as soon as I finish the Microbiology essay the rest of the term shouldn't be that hard with no more major assessed work (like essays). I will still have some presentations, and a poster to make but that's fairly fun so it will be nice to work on. Anyway, I'm going to crack on with this essay, see you next week.

i'm honoured to be named in your diary, the only reason i didnt let you use them was that I was working doing my essay and didnt want to be distracted by you, i have said today already that you can come and use them tonight if there are not any left in the library today.
- Grace Hodson
This article is relevant to #MB1005 Genes in Medicine, where we have been talking about inactivating enzymes and repression. The article also looks like a major breakthrough in Cancer medicine will occur soon, as this drug is produced to prevent Cancer's spreading in humans. When this is done we can prevent tumours from growing and spreading around the body so it is massively easier to treat.

#MyDiary Last week seemed to go so fast, can’t believe we only have 5 weeks left. Actually had a pretty good day today, even though it was a 10 till 5. Finally getting a hang of the microbiology practical’s, not only did we manage to finish in time, but we finally got a chance to sit down and actually try to understand what the results from the...
Olga post #MyDiary first and then comment on your own post/write about what's going on. That way your message won't get cut off like it has here unfortunately

Finally getting use to the new timetable. Compared to the modules from last semester, I'm finding this semester modules much more difficult and much more harder to grasp. I'm not too sure why this is the case ( maybe because there are more modules this semester...) but it could be because most of the content covered in each module is new stuff i.e. not covered in previous learning. This particularly relates to #BS1009 microbiology, where a lot of the information covered in lectures is all new to me. Also, #BS1011 seems a lot harder than #BS1010 from last semester, but that's probably because i'm useless with excel and spreadsheets. On a plus note, i am very excited for the module #BS1006 an introduction to physiology in upcoming weeks! :)

Pleased to have passed last semesters modules. After attending today's #BS1011 help session, I was finally able to complete and submit this weeks assignment :) .
YAYAYAY!!! Finished the Biochemical Importance of Water!!! About 1510 words without references or citations, if I remember correctly from my last count. Hopefully it's a good essay, I really can't write them for toffee =( lol....
good thinking never too early to start :) What's your revision strategy?
- Benjamin Tanner
Don't forget that there are quizzes on blackboard. Have a go at these because they give you a good insight on what the exam questions would be like. This is the computer based exam right?

The declaration in Dr Willmott's #BS1015 lecture today was hilarious! Hopefully the whole DNA = double helix and protein = alpha helix will stick in my head, not just the amusing sight of a whole lecture theatre full of students standing with their fingers on their nose giving permission to...
In which case I'll take the kipper everytime, way funnier than getting zero marks :)
- Nathan
well all i knw is that the person that walked half way through was probably thinking we were being brainwashed...hahaha
- Novpreet Rainer
lol apparently they walked back out again! Probably got really confused! I agree with Nathan, id take the kipper everytime too, i mean it would hurt and feel slimy for a couple of minutes whilst a zero would be worse for a lot longer!
- Maryam
I thought it was a v.good technique. By doing something different your more likely to remember the fact, especially for people like me who are visual learners.Lectures should do something like this more often (time consuming it may be). The guy that walked in when we doing our declaration was really funny as i was right by the door. He looked straight at me, in a strange and weird way then walked straight back out.

I chose this article as it looked interesting and could be a big medical breakthrough. It fits with the start of #BS1015, when we were talking about the lysis of cells and how we kill bacteria.
- Philip Higgs
You know you're meant to be a scientist when you're first thought on finding your fridge has frozen your Yakult is: 'I wonder if the L. casei Shirota bacteria have had their proteins denatured'.
I like how Professor Cundliffe uses humour and imagination to put a point across in #BS1015, it captivates me and stops me from becoming distracted by other things. I also find it easier to remember the facts.
I thoroughly enjoyed the #BS1015 lecture that I just had.The lecturer was great and the concepts were quite easy to grasp, looking forward to the next one now.. :)
I really love the use of keepads. I've been bragging to students at other departments about how we get to use them and friendfeed too. It helps me feel less like I'm just one in a sea of faces.
- Xanthe Simpson-Gray
Agree with Xanthe - The keepads are better than the system of raising hands and counting, and Friendfeed does exactly what Xanthe said - makes me feel less like I'm just another student.

Remember - tomorrow is a DRY practical so there won't be experimental work except for a short exercise at the end, the rest is preparation for the following week.
